Can any of you guys help me? I recently managed to get ahold of an iso of Headhunter Disc 1 to replace my knackered original with (excellent game, but it's getting hard to get ahold of now!), and although it works fine after it's burned, it seems to take a long time to recognise the disk.
The motor whirrs for almost a minute while the laser tracks the 1st_read.bin, I think, and I really dont want a knackered motor! Has anyone else had this problem, or does anyone know what the problem is?
I've never had it with an Emulator disc, and a booting from the Utopia disk doesnt help!
Any help is appreciated, guys! For the record the disc is a ritek 48x. The image is CloneCD format, and I'm burning at 2x, in data mode.

the data for the disc is probably to close to the center of the disc. Create a dummy file so that the real game data is on the outermost rings of the cd.

Nope, the file fills the disc! That was my first thought, although the sound of the GD-Rom gave me the impression that was the problem!

My only other idea is to try another DC if you can to see if it might be your laser. Or eBay.

Nope, I've got two DC's one mine and the other is my GF's same on both, except one makes a little less noise than the other, it still takes the same time!

I've noticed with many PC CD drives that if the disk is slightly damaged but still readable then the drive makes a a loud whirring noise when reading data.
Also, I've read that PC drives automatically slow down if they're having trouble reading a disk. Perhaps the DC does the same thing.
I would suggest making a backup of your backup using a high quality blank disk and see if that solves the problem.

use NERO and mess with your overburning settings... you should be able to fit it on a disc

Just came across an interesting article regarding Ritek.
Seems Ritek has been recommended by several folks, and the reason given is that they're easier to get. Now, obviously, everyone's actual experience will color their opinions, but since I've just gotten a burner, I decided to do some reading on what would be an "ideal" disc to purchase, so as to lessen the chance for coasters. Those dual-layer discs I bought a THREE pack of are friggen expensive, and the spindles/10 packs etc of DVD-R's are cheaper, but still a touch expensive to be making coasters.

I've found Taiyo Yuden's on NewEgg fairly cheap, and someone posted a site on several methods to determine who the manufacturer of the DISC (not the brand name on the package, i.e. Maxell, Verbatim, Fujifilm, etc) is. While not foolproof, I've bout 5 packages of discs so far, and the methods have been spot on for the manufacturer I was looking for.
I'm really just posting this for the article mentioned above, as several folks have posted with problems while using Ritek's, and perhaps that article explains it a bit for 'em.

I'm fully aware of the fog surrounding the different medias, but to clarify, Ritek as a company began by producing the dye used for recordable media, and a very high quality dye at that.

The article is referring to the Ritek discs.
Since you were asking for help and your efforts thus far haven't worked, I figured I'd just offer that up as a potential issue. Hopefully it might help others.

Hey, sorry to offend dude, I have a rather sarcastic sense of humour! No offence meant. :-\
It just seemed a little unrelated to the topic, that was all!
As for the CloneCD saga that I have been experiencing, it is not really down to Clone, as Nero throws a wobbler as well! All I can think is that I'll need to pick up some 99min discs and try one of them!
God alone knows!
