Title: X-Arcade replacement buttons
Post by: cholin on February 11, 2005, 11:54:57 pm
I saw an aucton on eBay for some buttons that I was considerring.  I saw it in another topic, but it's getting no response.  I wanted to know if X-arcade buttons are in fact any good?

The concensus seems to be that the switches on them aren't quite as good as Happs, but that they are pretty good for their price.

So for non-commercial use, they're good enough, right?

If you are on a budget, X-arcade buttons and sticks are good, if you are a perfectionist, go with Happs.

The most noticable difference is the sound of the microswitches, X-arcade's are rather loud, but it's fine if you have big speakers on your cab.

Also note : the X-arcade buttons have a maximum mounting depth of 3/4", so if you are planning on using 1/8" plexi you'll need to build your control panel out of 5/8" material (5/8" + 1/8" = 3/4")

So what Im getting from this is that X-arcade are pretty much the same with louder microswitches.  In that case, I better bid!  I figure it will save me over $40 CAD in the end if I go this route.

They are not really the same since they are shorter they can be a bear to properly mount in 3/4 cp wth and overlay.  Keep in mind that they are not as long as Happs Buttons.\

The X-Arcade sticks and buttons feel cheap is the fact of the matter. The stick is fairly loose and has a long throw, and the buttons feel lightweight and shallow. It's a good unit, don't get me wrong, but I don't think it feels arcade authentic.

The buttons feel fine for me.  I agree that the super is better than the x-arcade joy (I have one of each right now on the cp), but its the microswitches that make the difference.

As far as the mounting, I had to flip the nuts upside down so they would hold the button on correctly

It's the weekend.  Everyone is either working on their cabs, or playing them.

I have almost 40 of them on my Control Panel, no complaints  8)

(but as other posters have indicated, be sure your control panel isn't too thick)
