G'Day,
Can anyone tell if it is harder to hack a USB sidewinder, then the non-USB variety?
Can a USB Sidewinder even be hacked?
What are the differences in hacking a USB SW as compared to a non-USB variety!
Cheers!

I haven't hacked the usb version before... but my understanding is that physiciallly the gameport version is slightly easier to hack because of the marked "test" holes/contacts that match the button/dpad contacts.
The gameport version works in DOS... whichis a plus for some...
SO it's mainly a matter of just the layout of the pcb... but I' m sure the USB version is "hackable" ... gnateye here has hacked gravis usb game pads with some success FWIW.
good luck...

I have seen site detailing how to hack the gamepad variety, but none for USB ones... are there any??
I mainly want to get some idea of the ground wire configuration. I note that some seem to require a single "daisyichained" ground, while gnateye says that his are availble with individual grounds ??

Well there is a difference, they seperated all the grounds, so yes you can wire it, but you're gonna do like ten times the work as you would with a gameport version.
Basically to wire the USB version of the Sidewinder for every contact point you're going to have to wire the positive side AND the ground side, you can't just daisy chain them all like you can in the gameport version. Also I've heard that there is no premade testing holes in the USB version so you can't just wire in the holes like you can with the Gameport version that makes it the easiest game controller to hack.
-You want gameport versions of the Sidewinders, $5 BAM, lol, http://shop.store.yahoo.com/surpluscomputers/micsidjoy.html
