Title: Help with X Arcade joystick settings??? I was just ripped off, so please help!
Post by: thedyingmatt on February 09, 2005, 09:12:44 pm
Man I should have listened to everyone.....  But NO!!!  I had to go the "quick route" and buy this Piece of crap x arcade... Right out of the box the first player Joystick is like COMPLETELY LOOSE!!  I have to push extremely hard to get it to contact any of the sensor plates... and the first button is pretty much non responsive...

So we took it apart and my brother noticed that if a clamp of some sort was placed on the microswitch of the button it works fine..  In other words if you squeeze it between your fingers it works fine.  But about the joystick,  I was going to take the c clamp off and take out the joystick and try to "tighten" it or something?  I'm really not sure really how to go about doing this so if you could reply I'd be grateful.  Thank you.

Matthew

Call x-arcade. They will ship you a new joystick and button. They have lifetime support on their controllers.

I had an X-Arcade before I got my cabinet. IMHO it's a great device for people who don't have room for a cabinet or for one reason or another don't want a whole cabinet. I've seen some people complain about the micro switches being cheap or too loud or whatever, but I have no complaints about them.

I don't quite understand from your description what's wrong with it, but I suggest you tighten all screws and buttons before proceeding. After that you can check that the metal plates around the joystick touches the micro switches when you move the joystick around. If the plates doesn't line up properly or can't reach the micro switches you can carefully bend them in place. This can actually be used to tweak the joysticks to be more or less responsive.

If you still have no go, you should probably contact X-Arcade for replacement parts.

Sorry about the lack of information.  I pretty much just wrote that "rant" when I just finished opening the package to find the joystick broken.  But after me and my brother took apart the bottom and removed the joystick, we found surprisingly that the little cylinder of plastic that the spring goes over and keeps the joystick in place was broken off!!!  So we just superglued it back on and put the joystick together and it works fine!!

As with the button, I just said screw it for now and glued one of the small rubber circles  that comes on the x arcade rubber feet to the switch so that it actually makes contact and "clicks" when pushed.  Before it wasn't even firing correctly.

So all in all I fixed the problem for now, but will be hounding X Arcade for joystick replacements and buttons.

Thanks again!!

Matt

I'm glad you solved it. Might be a good idea to hassle X-Arcade about it anyway. Maybe they can compensate you in one some way. You should at least get some replacement parts.

I would bug the hell out of them until they replaced the defective stick and button at the very least.

X-arcade dudes are real cool. I ordered a Dreamcast adapter for the stick, they ended up sending me a gamecube one on accident. I called em up, told em what happened. They let me keep the gamecube adapter free and sent the Dreamcast adapter asap. I will never use the gamecube adapter...but..still nice of em.

So yesterday when I woke up I had two different emails from X Arcade saying they already have a replacement unit in the mail, with return shipping label for broken unit.  To me that is GREAT customer service for sure, and I'd hope so seeing as their rated highly for it.  After I read the email I called them up to let them know that when they receive the unit it will work fine, seeing as I fixed the problem.  They just asked me to write a little note about what I did to the unit so they can refurbish it easily.

On a side note I finished the construction of my bartop yesterday and now just have to put the bezel, plexi and paint on it.  I tried it out and it works well.  I was kind of disappointed to find the X Arcade unit wasn't exactly 7 inches tall like posted on the website, kind of makes the monitor rest a bit high, but other than that it's fine.

I'll be posting pics in another thread under project announcements if anyone is interested in checking out the finished product.

thinking about getting the x-arcade.. nice to see they have good customer service... what is the point of the pc adapter they sell with it? how does it connect to a computer with/without it?

The connection device it comes with connects from the  X Arcade to the Pc's keyboard port.  You then connect the keyboard through the X Arcade.  I'm only aware of this and the usb way to connect to a pc.

As long as it doesn't come broken like mine i'd say go for it.  The combination of good quality parts for the price + plug and play capability, I'd say it's well worth the money.
