Hello im a newbie at all this stuff.
I was wondering if a real ARCADE TRACKBALL like a CENTIPEDE TRACKBALL
will work with ultimarc's OPTI-PAC ???
I have seen a few on EBAY, But didn't know about buying one.
Because it might be more trouble than it's worth or would not work right with
OPTI-PAC ?
Thanks for any advice?
BUCKETHEAD .... :)

Optipac is made to work with real arcade trackballs such as those made by Happs and Suzo. Just get one without the PC / USB connections. The regular arcade ones work with it.

First of all, is it really you Buckethead!?!?!? ;)
I was wondering, what kind of trackball did you think worked with Opti-pac???

I was kind of wondering that myself.

Like i said im new to all this stuff.
I didn't know if it needed to be a certain kind like a HAPP ????
Or it could be one ripped directly out of a old arcade cabinet?
I know all trackballs work the same.
I just didn't know if the wiring harness for like a HAPP is different from that of a
old CENTIPEDE cabinet trackball
That is what i was getting at. I didn't want to take a chance and buy a useless
piece of junk. That wouldn't work with a OPTI PAC.
Anyways thanks! >:(

PS.
If i was the real BUCKETHEAD.
I probably wouldn't be here trying to get tips to build a cabinet.
I would be Loaded enough $$$$
To just to buy one.

Regardless of what kind you get you're going to have to cut off the plug and wire it into the optipac, it's not going to just plug in.
Anyways thanks! >:(
You're welcome. >:(

THANK YOU! :)
I have seen a picture of a OPTI - PAC and also the I - PAC
and noticed you had to wire everything into them.
again .... THANK YOU!

If you used a Centipede trackball, I would just check online to find out what voltage it runs off, and also to make sure exactly which pins are supposed to go with what wire. Other than that, most trackballs are pretty standard.

I have a centipede trackball that I tried a couple different ways of hooking up but it never worked right. The cursor would just sit there and flutter. Maybe either the boards were bad, or I never had it hooked up right, either way I couldn't get it to work so far. I have a couple of other trackballs so I didn't spend a lot of time with it either, and yes everything was spinning / aligned ect.

Did you disable joystick input in Mame? Other controls can interfere unless you unplug them or disable their input.

You also have to figure out if the jumper on the opti-pac must be "active high" or "active low".
That said, I have a Wico that only one direction worked and the other direction "fluttered" as you say. Could be you have bad optics.

I have 2 opti pacs, because I have 2 seperate controllers I've been using as prototypes to get the perfect layout. That said on that particular one I had the ultimarc 2 1/4 Track ball mounted and working (the other controller has a 3" Happ trackball) after testing things out with the ultimarc TB, I disconnected it and threw in the centipede TB, it didn't work, I messed with the wires and the jumper, now I'm sure I didn't try every possible combination on this trackball, because I have a few other ones on hand, so I threw it to the side. Hi my name is Matt, I have a problem, I'm addicted to Track balls. I currently have 4 - 2 1/4" Trackballs and 4 - 3" Trackballs. So you can see why I didn't bother spending too much time with it. Why do I have so many trackballs you ask, because I can, they were there and they were cheap, so why not ;D
