Anyone know what type of buttons these are?
The seller (this was from an auction) said that they were happ pushbuttons (concave)
I suspect they are Ultimate Buttons?
What's the different between Competition buttons and Ultimate buttons?
Thanks folks!
d.

I believe competition buttons are convex.
-
Oh. Is that the only difference? The Convex and the Concave?
No differenes in their 'action'?
d.

They look like X-arcade buttons to me ( microswitches aren't cherry but I guess these could just be repalcement switches )
-
Competition buttons are convex. Ultimate and regular buttons are concave.
The white switches may be Cherry switches. You may have a mix but mainly X-Arcade stuff.
-
Hmm.. if that's the case, the auction was dishonest. Are you pretty sure?
Here is a link to the auction.

Not sure which part you're asking if I'm 100% sure on.
From the pic it appears the white and red buttons are longer than the black ones. X-Arcade buttons are shorter than Happ buttons that are made for wood panels.
Look at this pic from the X-arcade site: http://www.x-arcade.com/specialoffer/buttons.htm
The buttons look like yours. Also note the switches are a tan on one side and black on the other like most in your pic. All the Happ buttons I've seen have white Cherry switches.
-
Does the white switches say Cherry on the side? What about the tan / black ones? As far as I know all Happs buttons have Cherry switches.
The red and white buttons in the pic may be Happ regular buttons. Can't tell just by the pic.
-
I'm not sure.. as I haven't received them yet. I just won the auction a couple hours back.
If they are x-arcade buttons.. I've basically wasted my money (from what I've heard)

Honestly, I think you've been had.
-
Well, if they are in fact x-arcade buttons.. then I think I have an argument as the auction clearly states...
"Buttons are made by Happ Controls."
d.
-
X-arcade buttons aren't that bad, IMHO...
-
Do some searches in the boards.
-
There are so many dishonest people on eBay. If you need Happ Buttons check out my thread on Buy/Sell/Trade.

I bought an x arcade package, and the buttons came just like that, they are in little zip loc bags, the button nuts are in a seperate bag, and the switches, (black and tan) in another bag. They definately look like x arcade. Also in the pic, you can see the black are definately shorter than the red and white ones.

That's very frustrating. I guess I should probably let the seller know of my discovery.. see what he says about it and see if he'll annul the auction? How do you go about taking care of these situations?

I also won this auction.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6151294408
from the same fellow.
I know that Ultimates are generally considered to be the worst.. but, for the price (and considering he was going to combine shipping for the two auctions I won from him).. I figured I get them as 'backups'.
Are these really Happ Controls Ultimates?! Or are they some no-name x-arcade equiv?

The little 'nubs' underneath the top plate make them look like Ultimates to me.
-
Other threads on here say their joysticks are very cheap made in China so I would assume the buttons are too.

A few years back I was the buyer for Taito. I purchased tons of Ultimate Joysticks from Happ. I have never seen that shade of blue.

quaterback,
Yes, but it sounds as if the buttons aren't even Happ Controls buttons... not just the switches.

Ditto. I don't think X-Arcade even offers red buttons.

I bought the X-Arcade package becuase it was a sweet deal and don't have any complaints so far. Have you received them yet? If so, I believe the X-Arcade switches were stamped with "X-Arcade" on the side.
Was the seller dishonest? Maybe. Were you ripped off? That's for you to decide.
-
To be fair the seller may genuinly believe they are Happ buttons.
However, the yellow microswitches do look like the type that are normally supplied with clone parts.
Ask the seller whether the buttons have an IL symbol on the bit of plastic that the microswitches clip on to. If they do then they are probably genuine Happ buttons (actually made by Industrias Lorenzo hence the IL symbol). If not then they are probably X-Arcade buttons.

Black, Red, and White.

Black, Red, and White.
;D Too funny! ;)
-
I can ID those as I've just recently ordered and received a bunch of X-Arcade buttons and sticks.
The black buttons and tans switches are X-Arcade, mine has those tiny zip-lock bags too, that's how they ship.
The longer buttons and white switches are Happs.
-
All this talk must have gotten to the seller. His current auction clearly states that the Black Buttons are X arcade and the Other colors are Happs.
Cannot see the description on the original auction to compare.

Yes, we had a discussion.. and he came to the conclusion that they were, in fact, x-arcade buttons. He cancelled our commitment to each other.. and said he was going to relist the items with a clear description.
So.. I respect that. Good for him.

Just wonderring because this came as a shock to me. I was going to buy these as replacements! What's wrong with X-arcade butons?
-
I too, "saved money" on an eBay auction, I think that the buttons are from China...and that may be where Arcade gets their supply. I found the switch part to be very lame...the joystick switches actually came with tape wrapped around the contact arm to take up slack and make a "good" connection. But the push buttons seemed OK, once attached with Cherry micro switch.
