Title: How to rotate Kymaera?
Post by: gonzobrian on February 04, 2005, 12:03:55 pm
I'm finishing up the final touches of a cocktail cab which has two cp's on the end and one long cp on the side.   That way I can play both vertical and horizontal games.  I would like to use Kymaera and see that it supports screen rotation but don't see how to impliment this feature in the documentation.

Any help or information on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
gonzobrian

gonzobrian,

Hey, PacManFan here.
Rotating Kymaera isn't too difficult. I have provided a vertical skin along with the distribution of Kymaera. It's in the skins\vertical directory.

Just change your skin to that one. Another thing you'll have to do is run the "imagert.exe" application on your art files to pre-rotate them to the correct orientation.

If you're interested in creating a vertical skin with the skin editor, send it to me and I'll include it in the next distribution.

In the skin editor, you can click on any text, or gamelist, and bring up the properties dialog to change the orientation to 0,90,180, or 270. Images are not rotated during run-time. I require them to be pre-rotated using the imagert utility.

Let me know if you need any help.

Hey PacManFan!

Thanks for the reply and thanks for this great FE!  Since I will be moving back and forth from vertical to horizontal I guess I will leave it set as is.  I was hoping that it might rotate on the fly.  I see that not many FE's do this.  I did run across an old post,

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,29720.0.html

That said 3darcade could do this and rotate itself depending on the orientation of the game after you come back to the fe.  Any chance you might implement this in the future?  I know I'm asking a lot, but love you FE, and this would be a great feature for those of us with rotating monitors and 3rd CP cocktail owners.

At any rate I'm very happy with Kymaera.  It is too slick.  I will take you up on the offer for future help as I have had trouble getting other emus working.  I'm very new to this and have been learning as I go along.  And there has been lots to learn.  :)  I have gotten the atari 2600 working well due to your help and the fact that you had already done most of the work for me.  I am trying to get some of the emus working that are listed at the screen shot archive.  I know that my problem is that I don't fully understant how to correctly list the launch parameters.  Perhaps I should wait and ask specific questions or if you could explain the correct sequence for  VirtuaNES v0.92e or FCE Ultra v0.97 then with all those examples I should be able to figure out how to do the rest.  I hate to ask to be spoon fed but have really been bashing my head in trying diffirent combinations and it just has not seemed to click with me on this part yet.
Much thanks,
gonzobrian

And when you're ready for a rotating jukebox, check out WinCab Jukebox at http://webpages.charter.net/celamantia/jukebox .  :)

PacManFan -

One thing I noticed with your vertical skin is the controls work backwards.  Down is up and up is down.

No kidding?,

Oh well, one more thing to do on my massive list of changes. How did the vertical skin work for you otherwise?
