In a lot of games I picked up here in Oklahoma City a while back, I got a game which just says "Baseball" on the marquee. After fixing the power cord, I discovered the game is "Super Baseball Double Play Home Run Derby" (KLOV has 0 information on it, for some reason).
The thing about this particular game is it's in a fairly nice Robotron cabinet. The cabinet has a little water damage on the top and a couple of rough corners, but overall it looks decent. Even stranger is that it has a Joust bezel (also in nice condition).
Do you all think it would be worth the effort to divide everything up (cabinet, bezel, and game/cpo), or should I just try and sell it as is?
-
You always get more by parting it out. Saving them has to be (nearly always) a labor of love.
-
Found the game listed on MAWS.... has a pic of the cab too....
-
I meant to post this as well.

why would someone do that to poor robotron ???
-
I recognize that CP. It's a crap game. You won't be able to part it, or more specifically you'll get crap for it.
-
Peale, I've actually tried to contact him multiple times asking about buying that CP and the game board and never received a response. I am not sure he's serious about this.
-
Try PMing him at Digital Press.
I've seen this cab in person and it is a really nice one. I said this before in a thread on another forum, but I'll repeat it here. With such a good Robotron cab that already has a Joust bezel and has already been converted, this one really needs a Multi Williams. If I had a place for another cab I'd probably have already gone to OKC and brought it home with me.

I have, I posted inquiring and PMed him. Either way, I'm no longer interested in doing business with him, I figured I'd just add some input since this is not DP.
-
Um, actually that's not true Chad.
On Digital Press, you posted:
"How much are you looking for the panel/board?? I don't think they're terribly valuable, but the game is a favorite of mine."
I responded 90 minutes later with the following message:
"I don't know -- before I do that I need to find out of there's a market for an empty Robotron cabinet, or if I'll end up with a Williams carcass in my garage forever."
The thread is here for public consumption:

I thought that was a pretty clear response, but if for some reason it was confusing, I apologize.
And so, that's exactly what I'm doing -- trying to find out if there's a market for an empty Robotron cabinet.
-
Well, I can tell you how it is here in OK.
-
There's typically a pretty good market for empty Williams cabs down here in Texas.
-
I also remember PMing you more than once about it to no response. That's okay, though, it's not a big deal, I was just offering a datapoint.

There was exactly one PM in which said essentially the same thing your public post did. I thought my public response had sufficed but apparently not, as you felt the need to publicly announce you didn't think I was serious and that you weren't interested in doing business with me (completely mutual, btw).
At this point I'm planning on throwing the game away and MAMEing the cabinet, just because I know how much it would upset you. :-*
-
Wonderful. You do that. BTW, you're not doing yourself any favors mentioning that here. I'm actually less adamant about maming of classic cabs than many here. I know you, and that you're not a total ---rectal-santizer---, but a person coming in here with 5 posts saying they have a Robotron they are going to mame is likely to be run right out of here.

Real nice attitude. I look forward to your future posts.

An empty Robotron with side art doesn't seem to me like it would be that hard to convince someone to take off of your hands. Hell, to me it's LESS desirable with the POS baseball game in it! :o

Hey guys, go easy on Flack. He just doesn't want to get stuck with something he's not going to be able to sell. I can personally vouch for him. I met him recently and bought a Neo Geo from him, he's a good guy and he has a sterling reputation on DP and Atari Age.

I don't see why you guys are getting all ruffled over maming this cab. It's not like it hasn't already been converted to a crappy cinematronics game.
-
Because it can be saved.
-
Not without spending more than it's worth.
-
More than it is worth to you, maybe. Maybe it's worth more to someone else. Not everyone is in this hobby for the monetary value of the games.
-
See, there's tasteful Mame conversions, and there are tacky conversions.
Tasteful would include using the existing artwork/theme in conjunction with new controls. IE the Q-Bert conversion posted recently in Project Announcements.
Tacky would include hacking off the sides to put on a four player panel. Or maybe using the existing panel, but using the marble contact paper stuff as an overlay. I did exactly *one* CP like that, and scrapped it. It looks like crap.
So if this is Mame'd - and Mame'd well, I applaud. Seems this would make either a killer Multi Williams, or some hybrid thereof, since it already has a Joust bezel.
If I lived close, I'd take this in a second. Robotron is one of my must-have games.

That's true.
-
It would make a good Multiwilliams, I agree. Personally I would restore it to the real PCB, but a respectful Multiwilliams is perfectly fine as well.

I do live close by and am giving it some serious thought. Lack of space is really the only thing holding me back. If I buy it, something else has to go.

I'm no big fan of Williams games, but I know a couple of people who are.
