Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if there are any aussies on this forum.
I have caught the bug and I want my own arcade cabinet running mame. I am trying to find a cocktail cabinet but I don't know where to start.
I was just wondering if there are auctions in Australia (preferably in NSW) like those that are held in the U.S. for used arcade machines?
Thanks,
HOH

Correct Snaaake I am.
HOH, I was actually in Sydney last week and on the coach trip from the airport to the hotel we went past a pinball and arcade place that sold, rented, repaired pinballs and arcade machines. It was only a couple of minutes away from the domestic airport heading towards the city. There are a few various suppliers around town. I noticed there were quite a few arcade places along George St (all we have in perth are timezones) so you might want to go in and see them to see who supplies them. I saw a cocktail cab in the Slip Inn - which by the way had a Star Wars Episode 1 pinball machine which I'd not seen before.
I bought the majority of my stuff from Bob Roberts with others from Oscar and Ultimarc. Seems cheaper on parts to get them overseas.
Here's an auction http://www.graysonline.com.au/sale.asp?SALE_ID=5100 (http://www.graysonline.com.au/sale.asp?SALE_ID=5100) although not till end of next month. Do some searches on www.anzwers.com.au (http://www.anzwers.com.au) that;s where I got some info.
Hope this helps and let us know how you go.
Cheers

I think because of taxes that Ultimarc products are cheaper virtually anywhere in the world EXCEPT the UK where they're made. And I think shipping on that stuff is flat rate overseas anyways.

Hey Everyone,
Thanks for the replies.
Yep, Sydney is quite blessed (or is that damned, probably not on this forum) as arcade games go. After seeing what they have on show elsewhere in the world.
Cdbrown: I actually drove past the store you mentioned near the airport thats what started me thinking about this project in the first place.
And alas I must admit a rather large portion of my youth was (mis-)spent on george st catching the arcade bug. Mmmmmm Ghouls and Ghosts my first true love, anyway I digress.
I did ring around a few of the Sydney suppliers and there prices were pretty high compared to the US (although the way our dollar is going what can I expect).
Ultimarc will definately be the first place I buy some stuff for my project from and Happ seems pretty good as well. Although I will probably have to hunt around locally for a coin door as I would imagine the postage on that from the U.S. would be quite a bit.
Thanks for the lead on the auction I will check it out for sure.
Thanks,
Daz (HOH)

HOH,
Have a chat with Chris W, he has some coin mechs shown on his site, I might be getting one from there soon (Chris, you must have posted yours just as I started to type mine. Sorry for not plugging your site). Although the ones shown aren't really the type I want. Rather have the ones on the current machines. Should be able to get one of those at a reasonable price and working especially from timezone since the coin mechs aren't used as everything goes off the "powercard" now. I would like to get one of those. If you find one (preferrably 2 slots) can you let me know.
Cheers

G'day HOH
My brother and I are half way through building our Mame machine. I managed to pick up a gutted cab from one of the two arcade places here in Canberra (can't remember there names). Both places knew about MAME and offered us any help we needed. Managed to pick up an upright, with 2 sticks, 14 buttons, a working twin coin mechanism is excellent condition for $200. No monitor, but we wanted to use a PC monitor anyway.
Have plans to use the machine to play EA games like FIFA and NHL as well.
For all I have heard, Ozsticks in the place for MAME hardware stuff, but there is also www.highway.net.au and I think they are in Sydney (for coin mechanisms and buttons etc)
