Title: Mouting a cocktail table monitor
Post by: mlcampbe on February 03, 2005, 10:18:55 am
I'm having some problems visualizing how I am going to mount a 19" computer monitor in a cocktail cabinet. In my case I don't want to mount the monitor to the side panel that swings open and would rather drop it in from the top.

I recall reading something here on the forums where someone had instructions and pictures for making a frame around the monitor and use rope on either end to set it into the cabinet. Does anyone remember that thread and have a link?

Another option I have thought about is to mount the monitor directily to the bottom of the table top and then just set the combination top/monitor on top of the cabinet. Has anyone done this and how stable is this option?

Any other ideas that I might use?
Thanks

I'm thinking of building a cocktail table myself.  What I'm plan on doing is creating a shelf in the cocktail where the monitor can sit with casing and all. Then creating a holding for the monitor outside of the cocktail that'll sit above the shelf which will allow me to level out my screen (my monitor's back side isn't straight).

Go ahead make jokes...

But I plan on attaching the casing I made outside of the cocktail inside to the shelf.

I hope that makes some kind of sense.  If you've built a cocktail in this fashion before feel free to comment and drop in.  I'm open to advice.

I've actually been working on a cocktail of my own, and had a pretty good solution.

Basically, I just built a shelf and used 4 metal shelving brackets on each side to lay the shelf on (this way it is removable). I then used some VERY heavy duty brackets (from a bed frame, but I'm sure you can get them elsewhere) to sit the monitor on (and keep it from both rocking side-to-side and tilting).

Here are some pictures: Cocktail cab shelf & brackets (http://jbeffects.com/cocktailcab/index.php?mode_pag=show&tit_dir=Unfinished&dir=1_Unfinished_Cocktail&action_foto=show_foto&cat=Cocktail&cat1=Unfinished)

I hope that helps.

Have you thought of de-casing the monitor? Makes mounting a whole lot easier!  As long as your relatively careful.

Plenty of threads linked to this method.
