oh its just a "simple" circuit board problem ::) if it was so simple it would be fixed--so think of it this way--is $400 too much for a cabinet with dead boards? I wouldn't give him that but it comes down to how bad you want it i guess..

i guess since i'm a real newbie, it's not worth it... i'd love to repair it, but would probably end up spending more than 1k

I'm sorry, I couldn't get past their email address. ;D

I'd probably go as high as $250. Probably higher if the glass wasn't broken. He says that the glass is cheap to replace, it probably is if you put regular non-tempered glass in it like it has now. It should have tempered glass though, which will cost considerably more.

The glass is NOT cheap to replace. (Tempered, 1/4" thick, pencil polish edges and round corners)
The board is not cheap to replace.
Figure the value of both of those things and subtract...

if i want to make it a mame machine, it would probably be too expensive

$400 if the boards are intact and the monitor isn't blown for *that* machine isn't too out of line. Non-working empties go for about $200 usually.
Since there's no way to tell what's wrong with it, and your n00b status with real arcade tech, I say pass.
