We're currently arguing whether or not Hospital bills effect your credit.
She says that they don't but can't give me any resons as to why not. I say of course they effect your credit, if you don't pay your bills it effects your credit.
I tried searching the web to get some proof for her but all I find is "consolodate your debt" and "get out of debt now" crap!

If you don't pay your bill they can send you to a collection agency. wich is bad for your credit.

speaking from experience, i agree with shape d. i was sick and wasnt forwarding my bill to my insurance company quickly enough and the hospital sent me to a collection agency, which effects you credit negatively for sure. my mess got sorted out luckily, but dont mess with health care providers when it comes to money, they love money are are expertly adept and getting it from us.

Oh it's far to late to be worrying about that. They sent the bills to a collection agency MONTHS ago! :o
I wish they would understand that we have absolutley 0 income and that there's just know way that we can pay them... :-[

ya i know what you mean , i had one agency tell me "according to your ss# you make $X per month and that is $100 more a month than you owe us , so we see no reasion why you cannot pay" , !!!!! like i dont need to do things like buy gass , food , pay other bills and the only thing in the world i need to even worrie about paying any cash to was them ... WTF do they expect me to live off of with that whoping extra $100 a month i got!?!

how do two fully grown, healthy adults have 0 income? I make $5 sometimes just checking the mail.
Then again, you did say she's a crackhead.
-
Usually medical stuff won't go on your record if you pay the hospital something. Even $25 a month. That *should* keep you out of collections. HOWEVER, if you're already in collections, you're screwed. It is going against your credit.

Right! ;D

You also may want to go ask the 'experts' at a credit forum or such. The one I know about is at http://www.creditboards.com/forums/

Hospitals are lenient if you pay them... he let them go to collections and then let it go further. He has made no good faith effort to pay them, and as such the hospital has no reason to believe he will do so. He is one step from being sued and it will wreck his credit. There is no way to avoid it now. Had he simply talked with the hospital, and kept them in the loop, and made token payments, the hospital would likely have given him all the slack he needs.

Yes hospital bills can give you bad credit. I got busted up pretty bad and the insurance co messed things up. not payng the hospital. it was on my credit when buying a house. takin care of but Yes you can get a bad mark from hospital bills.

It affects credit, no doubt.
Cooter is right, You can keep these guys off your back a little if you pay them a little. Just $5 - $10 a month. My brother was in for 50K and did that. He found some ways to get it paid by government programs and charity drives.
If you have no income, how do you live? Dude, get up and do something, anything, even if it's wrong.
If people from other countries can come to the US and make millions in a few years, you have no excuse. If you are healty and breathing you can get up do the same.
I wish you the best!
