Check out this site http://www.extraordinaryarcade.com/arcademachines.html (http://www.extraordinaryarcade.com/arcademachines.html)
This guy is charging $500+ for a 13" TV, speakers, a wood case and a Jakks 5 in 1.
It's $200 just for a bartop kit. You can buy a UAII cab kit for $350

The saddest part is knowing they more than likely picked up the entire idea/artwork and every other facet of their project from this site.
If in fact he does sell one for $500 , I think he should give everyone who helped , a small cut of the profit.
Just another greedy, ignorant stupid son'beech trying to cash in on the big craze. It's people like this that really scare me. I mean face it, someone , somewhere in my opinion, is going to ruin it for the lot of us later down the road.
MameCabs, Jakks Cabs, all the rejects from Blip's Arcade ... where does it end?
Sorry for the rant .....

mameroom.com has them for $380 + $100 shipping (approx). i think if he can find buyers, good for him. making money doing something you love is the best job out there. if he's stealing artwork, i feel that's a different story. maybe if it's such a big profit, more people should start selling them if there's a market.

I've seen these (they had one on ebay a while back), and it sold. These guys aren't the only ones doing it either, there's other members here that are making these bartops and selling them on ebay for $500+ each time. I think the thing that atracts me to the bartops is the better shipping rates (it's just too pricey to ship a full size arcade cabinet).
Has anyone here bought one of these bartops yet (in my opinion, I like this design the best, I know it doesn't look like any specific arcade bartop, but it's just a nice generic shape that is much nicer than some of the other boxes I've seen sold on ebay).
I think JimmyJet makes these too, and he's sold some of his galaga ones for over $600. I think he said in another thread that he had to stop because they weren't selling for as much anymore (probably christmas interest raised the prices), but it seems like even if you didn't sell them for $600 it would still be worth it (I wonder how much it costs to make something like that).
I'm glad at least though that they are using Jakks instead of MAME, I don't see any threat to this community for those that use the Jakks hardware stuff, but I think when they use MAME (like this one that just went for over $800 - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13716&item=6148966895&rd=1), that is when I worry that someone will ruin it for the rest of us.
Just my $0.02

this is good line too...
THIS IS A MAME SYSTEM, WAS GIVEN TO ME AS A GIFT, I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THEM, HAS HAD VERY LITTLE USE. CONTAINS MANY CLASSIC GAMES, GALAGA, MS PACMAN, PACMAN, MR PACKMAN, JOUST, FROGGER, TOO MANY TO LIST!
Yea right :P

I dont really see any problems with him charging $500 for these, After all he'd have to charge something for assembling it and make a profit on it.

I think most of the people on these boards would be more likeley to build one rather than buy it.

I would be OK if these were being sold for $150-$200 complete, but more than that is robbery!

are you kidding? why dont you try making these and see how much profit you actually make selling that low, it wouldnt be worth your time

You gotta think how amazing this would seem to the average person.
To us, no biggie. We all have MAME cabs or at least a MAME setup on the ol' PC. To some dude who hasn't played Joust since 1984 when he was 15 this thing is countertop nostalgia goodness!

$150-200 COMPLETE????
Not a chance in the world. I will personally buy 3 of them from you if you can get them for me for 150... I Guarantee you cant... or rather... WONT sell them for that price.
It's different for us.... we do this as a hobby. We don't think of a carpenter, electrician, etc etc salary when we make our cabs.... there is labor, overhead, time expense..... now this guy may not be a "carpenter" persay.. but he has to be paid for his work.
I don't see anything wrong with his prices. I wouldn't buy one because I'd rather build it myself, but you can't knock a guy for trying to make some money doing something he likes.
Now if it was a $900 star wars yoke... that'd be a different story.

I think a Ferrari is robbery.
You're not paying for the parts, you're paying for a "package" and the perception of something unique/rare. You can't exactly walk into Walmart and buy a bartop arcade machine.

I personally built six bartops immediately before Christmas, and you can't do it for $150.
