I am considering pulling out my working Namco System 11: Point Blank 2 PCB from a conversion cab I have and changing the board to something else. I know this game is not emulated yet. System 11 emulation is possible in MAME and ZINC, but its not been dumped yet.
I keep thinking the right thing to do is to send the board to someone to dump it so it can be added to MAME and others can enjoy it, since it is a pretty cool light gun game. If anyone has sent a board out to be dumped, do you typically get the board back ? and if so is the PCB still viable in case I want to put it back in or sell later?
This is one of those games that KLOV has no info on and they sell pretty high from an importer, etc. So it's got some collector value and dont want to trash it just have it dumped, if any damage occurs during that process. (unknown)
Thanks in advance for yout perspective on it.

from what ive heard you get the PCB back just as you sent it, I think it would be awesome if you contributed that game cause I love it =)

After they dump your board they have a special shredder so it can never be used again.
-
Can you imagine what that shredder would have to look like? It'd be like a DR.Chipper or something... :P
-
You know I figured they would likely do an 'office space' on it, or try out someones big red button of doom set up on it. But I guess shredding it work be effective.
;D

i know someone on here had some weird version of mortal kombat 2 and he just sent his board in, why dont you ask him, the thread is on the buy/sell board

Well, yah, it's more suited to a woodchipper, except designed for citcuit boards.

yes please get the roms dumped - not sure what is involved but dont imagine that the board would be damaged in the process.
it would be great to have point blank 2 working in mame.
i assume as point blank 1 is working (albeit without sound) it would be relatively easy for mamedev to get it working also.
i also hope they get the sound sorted out soon.
would be great to play those games on xbox (using mameox) especially as distict lack of shooting games for xbox at the moment.

I though after they dumped it, they DUMPED IT :D

Point Blank 1 and 2 are totally different System hardware.
I'll send it off to be dumped.

/enjoys the word "dump"

I sent a PM to Xtrasmiley about having a DUMP done for the Point Blank2 board. Hopefully, can make this happen.
Hehehehehe I used dump and xtrasmiley in the same sentence, some how that just amuses me.

Do they really destroy the board after they DUMP it?
Please tell me that that's a joke. :P
-
Yeah it's a joke ;D
-
Whew.
Freakin' scared me there.
-
Yes, it's a joke. They're really careful with them.
Sometimes they might keep the board a little longer than just copying the ROMs, say to run some special code on them. That's only if they don't have a like board to run the code on.

I hope you pick my Garbage can and not the others here :P

I still have not received my Woodpecker board back yet. Before I sent it in I was led to believe an honest attempt would be made to dump it and REPAIR it. No attempt was made to repair it, plus I have been told that it was pretty much destroyed in the dumping process. Hopefully, YMMV. I believe the destruction is strongly related to the fact that the important parts were encased in epoxy.
I'm not angry, just disappointed. I tried to find someone knowledgeable and willing to repair the board but everyone refused. Plus, its a pretty bad game!

daeven: who did you send it to?
And yeah, epoxy will do that.
