Looks like I JUST missed out on getting this for practicaly free from EBWORLD online.
I'd like to try and find the DVD-ROm version, and not the DVD_VIdeo version that is still available for less than $20 bucks.
Even the upcoming 20th anniversary pack is going to be DVD_Video, which means pauses and such on a PC.
The DVD-Rom version of DL that came out supposedly didn't have any pausing at all, etc.
Anyone have a spare, or a lead on where to pick one up?
Ebay has turned up nothing so far....
Or for that matter, is anyone running the DVD-VIDEO version on a DVD-Rom drive MAME pc and getting really good results?

It's where it always should be.
$29.95 at http://www.digitalleisure.com
You have to scroll alot, past the xbox stuff, on their ordering page.

I could never get the DVD rom to work on my system (the frontend they used wouldn' run) so you might have to just rip it to use with Daphne. This is the best way in my opinon, so you get the exact same gameplay as the arcade (and absolutely no skips! ;) ) Plus it works with most frontends along with MAME!

DVD-ROM vs DVD-Video anyone? Anyone? Anyone?
can I get away with the DVD-Video ones at ebworld now for $16.99 and such?
I hear they play like crap on PS2s and Xboxes, but figured that was the issue with the hardware ram limitations, and not the disc itself.....
???

I also have the DVD Video of Space Ace, it plays like crap on my DVD player or my DVD ROM drive. 2 second lag on every single move. The death scenes come up instantly though... :P

My understanding is:
The DVD-ROM is the better choice if you have a DVD-ROM drive in your computer (obviously).
The DVD-Video one has the advantage of being able to play in a regular DVD player, which the DVD-ROM version can't. It'll also still play on your PC's DVD-ROM drive, but it'll skip a lot more.
Check this thread from a few months back for more info:

Also, if you look on the Daphne message boards (and possibly the FAQ or documentation), the DVD-Video version of Dragon's Lair is lacking some parts that are in the DVD-ROM version.

Can you still get the original laserdiscs? I have inherited an old pioneer Laserdisc player and would love to get it to play Dragon's Lair, Space Ace, etc in my Cab.

I heard there's only one place in the world still pressing laser discs. You might be hard pressed to find a new one.

As far as Daphne is concerned, only the DVD-rom will work. The DVD-video is missing some footage, and there isn't a good way to extract the footage that is there.
They stopped pressing new laserdiscs. They ran a Dragons Lair special edition with some early prototype scenes about a year ago and that was it. Discs can be found on ebay (though usually too expensive).
For this entire topic, your best bet is to check the daphne board at http://www.daphne-emu.com/ (http://www.daphne-emu.com/) and the Dragons-Lair-Project board at http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/ (http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/). Between those two, all your questions shall be answered. Though I advise to search before posting, because they tend to not be as friendly sometimes.

Hey guys, you will not want to get the DVD-Video versions. Buy the DVD-Rom ones. They are better for a few reasons. One of the main reasons they are better is that you can very easily extract the MPEGs to use with Daphne emulator.
