There's enough of us in the GTA area.
-
You know, I've thought about this before, and being the socially retarded guy I am, I always think "OK we meet, and then what?" :P Are we obligated to talk about games? What's a good opening line "hi, do you have a cab?".
Or could we make this a bit of a swap meet and bring our spare parts? heh.
;D
-
i think a BYOAC meet would be the geekiest gathering ever, lol. People would start talking about their high scores on tempest and id be like, yeah so umm... i got a new wastegate activator for my turbo. theyre like, umm is that in MAME?
;D :P
-
Well, I was reading all these posts about a local get together and I just thought maybe we in the GTA could one.
But your right, what do you talk about during this meet?
-
ive done a few car meets before, but at least then youre bringing with you the thing that youre all into. we all got MAME cabs but theyre at our houses lol.
unless one of those people with a arcade in their basement hosted, that would be badass

Well I got a Chase HQ, Pole Positon II and my Mame machine.. so its not that much of an arcade
-
I find that alot of people in mame have very similar interests, cough>geeks<cough> ;D so you end up talking about computers, star wars, women you would love to date but wouldn't get the time of day, star trek, whether shatner or stewart made a better captain--you know that sort of thing. Once the initial awkwardness of meeting new people is over it usually goes quick--alcohol always helps too ;D
I'd be game for it (see me drop that pun--oh ya!)

Sorry about hijacking the thread but seeing as it has the attention of the GTA types...
I will be in the Toronto/Hamilton are in a few weeks. Any good arcade related stores, vendors or other places I should visit while in the area?
-
What are you looking for? If your going to be in Toronto, Starburst Coin in Kipling would be a good place to visit.
-
Thanks
Starburst Coin is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for.

Except don't expect to be able to walk in and browse through parts. You basically need to know what you want and you ask for it at the parts counter. Everything is in a closed off back-room/warehouse. And they seem to only stock "the basics".
All in all, you might spend 10 minutes in there looking at what few games they have.
-
Oh well. It's still better than anything we have here in Ottawa :'(
-
Also you'll be able to play some of the newer games that have in the showroom. As they usually have a few pinballs and games available for free play.
-
Playdium is 5 minutes from my house :D
-
Swaps would be BAD ASS too if we did this!
-
So whats the deal here? Unfortunately with these get together things is that someone has to take point or else I find it doesn't happen (I nominate GGkoul ;)). I think playdium is a decent choise--does it have a food/drink area?
-
I'll come.. if someone wants to bring a me a free t-stik plus. :)
-

Im not 100% on going. Only because between work and school i have little time to spare....
So whatever you guys plan on doing.. i will check the thread and see what i can do.
-
I might be interested, but the thing is there is a video game show already scheduled for early March. So why not all meet there? I know some people already going there intend to bring arcade related stuff to sell or trade.

-
So is anyone going to the Video Game show?
-
ANyone bringing stuff to trade?
-
hmmm.
No posts in 16 days.
Event over.
Time to un-sticky?
How did it go BTW?
-
I agree, time to unsticky....
Didnt go.
We should meet at the next Starburst auction.
-
Stareburst Auctions are always on saturdays that i cant get off :(
-
IIRC, the next Starburst auction is 16APR05 and I am planning to go to check it out (I live 5 minutes away and have never been to an auction, can you believe that??).
Anybody else ?
-
Hopefully I have some money to spend at the next auction.
I should be there and Menace and his great BYOAC sign is usually there
-
So who is going this weekend?
I might be out of town so I may miss this....
-
I'll be there.
Been reading the various threads on recent Starburst auctions and I believe it is safe to say that "The Kid" will be there ...
I have now linked a SurfPlanet machine I bought on eBay (for a decent price... I love the cabinet, the game and the monitor) and a Hit The Ice cab I bought on behalf of a friend (for an indecent price and I hate the game, but it isn't mine, so WTH..) to December's auction (won't be telling my friend what the machine went for originally)..
The eBay seller is rather young in appearance (but a decent guy and both machines have been clean and fully functional), so I am willing to bet that my seller is "The Kid" and, last I spoke to him (Friday when picking up my friend's machine), he needed to clear out space in the warehouse (hence my assumption that he's going to be there).
Cheers,
JAKD
-
Yep, we all know who "The Kid" is. There is still bargins to be had when he is there.
-
I'll be trying to make it for sure. Any tips from anyone on attending one of the autions? never been to one before. and just started building my first cabinet, but i'd maybe like to get one to refurb as well.

I might attend, along with a bunch of other CGCC people. If I do, look for the guy in a purple shirt with white Atari logo.
I'd sure like to know who "the kid" is too...
-
If you want to know who the kid is, look for a guy about 6'2", 220lbs in a white BYOAC shirt (that'll be me) choking the crap out of a 130lb twerp (that'll be him) who it now appears to be phantom selling machines on eBay.
I found my SurfPlanet machine (which I bought from him on eBay) had been "sold" (by him) a few weeks prior (for much more $$$) with positive feedback all around ... and it is a damned conversion in a somewhat unique cab ... not possible to have two of that particular style in a short time period.
I have e-mailed him about the "coincidence", but have yet to hear back . I

Yeah ... I heard back from him on that ... guess the Harp lager was doing the thinking for me last night ...
-
Hey
Just got back from the auction. Didn't see any BYOAC members but I did meet some CCGA members.
I bought a stand up Virtua Racing cab and a $25 Love Tester. There was a bunch novelty items that sold for $25, horascope machine, weigh machine and around 10 love testers. It was funny because the first person that bid $25 on the item, won the item. So I was lucky and got the last love tester.
There wasn't a lot of people there, except for the regulars. Yes the kid was there and he bought his usual share of good. He out bid me on a Virtua Fighter 2 cab that sold for $300. $300 was cheap, but I didn't want to send all my cash. As I really wanted the Virtua Racing cab.
-
I was there, but only for about 20 or 30 minutes to check out what was up for auction, to get an idea of what type of stuff they get. But did stay, since I was gonna bid on anything, (may be moving, need to figure out how much space the new place will have first). And I was pretty impressed with the range of games they had.
-
I was there until about 12:30, then had to split.
The kid outbid me for two of the NeoGeo 4-slots (which I am going to watch for on eBay as I'm not convinced he's going to get the 500+ he needs to see a return on them ... would be nice to score them at about $300 from him ...).
I ended up with a NeoGeo 2 slot and a bunch of golf boards.
GGKoul: The last love tester was just before the SW pin, wasn't it ? Were you standing on that scooter game at the time ?
-

Yep, that was me. I bid on one tester and someone outbid me for it. Then I got the last one ;D

I was beside you in the blue sweatshirt and glasses (I thought that the kids tractor had gone for $500 ...)
I just noticed from my list that I didn't hear what the Area 51s went for -- did you catch the price on them ?

Can we get this unsticked?
-
No. Let's have a BBQ at GGKoul's house!

Hey, I'm picking up a Virtua Racing Twin this weekend. So come on over...
Besides, I know you want to use my Love Tester Machine..
-
So, you'll have a VR twin and a VR standup ?
Sounds like an overload ... do you need to get rid of anything ?? ;)
Nudge, nudge ...
Cheers.

Well, the VR Twin I got has a bad monitor. So I'm going to swap the monitor from the standup.
