Title: My obnoxious ex-boss is on Apprentice!!!
Post by: mr.Curmudgeon on January 24, 2005, 12:03:32 pm
This is totally hilarious...my ex-boss, and nemesis at the time, is one of the 18 contestants on the new season of the Apprentice.

I worked directly along side this maniac, when I was Creative Director for his firm, where we shared a difference in managerial styles... to say the least.

I haven't seen the first episode yet, but I have a copy of it. From what I've read about it, it's apparent that neither he, nor his ego (which really is considered a separate entity), has changed at all.

Can you guess which dude?

Wow, that's cool.

You can watch him get fired, again!  And even do it in slo mo.

Ummm.... The republican one?  ;D hahaha

That didn't help narrow it down did it?   ;D

If you think he's obnoxious, I gotta start watching the apprentice.

Trust me...he's got me beat in the obnoxious department. I don't think he's Republican either, more Totalitarian than even they could probably stomach.   ;)

I'm going to relish every moment! My hope is that he gets strung along through the whole season. Although, I don't think he'll make it past the second episode, as it sounds like he only made it through the first one on a technicality. That'll be a pity. I need this kind of Schadenfraud too, it'll make me a much happier person.

This guy is the reason I now live out here on the east coast. He flew me out for the interview and I moved out here for that job, which turned out to be the most horrendously nightmarish experience of my life. Maybe I'll go into it later...Suffice it to say, he's the reason I'll never go to work for a design/marketing agency ever again.

ROFL!! Btw, that's DannyK to you!! He forces everyone to address him that way. Polyester outfits were on good days!! The rest of the time this self-described "fashionista" and "neo-nerd hipster" looked like he just spent the night in the back-alley.

...

GAH!!! Just read this in his bio, "Also I think My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss is hilarious really and I want to see those people on The Today Show!"...irony meter...explodes.

EDIT: He also lists "Bjork (Gudmundsdottir)" as one of his musical interests. What kind of facsist, elitist, d!ckwad uses her last name in a favorites listing?? Is he scared we infidels might get her confused with all the other Bjork's out there??  God, I hate this man.  :D

Is it a good thing to do that MrC? Give him credibility or watch him fall in the polyester flames of humiliation?

Alas, this is my conundrum. To give him attention, even if negative, will only inflate his ego. To fail to ignore him is to allow him victory.

Hey, if that guy's so friggen successful, why couldn't the guy afford a razor before he had the pic taken that's posted in Goz's link?  I do it too, but I'm not some "up and comer wanna-be", it's for weather protection!

Tell that guy Miami Vice called.  They want HIM back.

....this thread is beyond funny to me.

I'm in Advertising so I've worked with my share of "DannyK's" in my time (I work in Mid Town, NYC).

I thought it was funny on the Apprentice how he went from everyone's best friend to the "biggest loser".....but I don't want to ruin this episode for you!!!!

.....based on your email....you'll REALLY enjoy the episode.

I've having a viewing party with wine and cheese. If I smoked cigars, this would be the perfect opportunity.

Hey MrC.

Dish!!!!

I wanna hear a story about your time with DannyK. It will make me the hit of my business meeting tomorrow.

Ok, OK to limit liability I would be interested in hearing a story about a fictional character named KennyD.

Please please please please please  ;)

Ok, OK to limit liability I would be interested in hearing a story about a fictional character named KennyD

OK, here's a brief story involving "KennyD"...We had a client at the time, one of the largest distributors of musical instruments on the east coast, that often gave us products for photo shoots. Some of this product were given to us as gifts. One such product was a very nice classical guitar. We always had guitars in the office and he ALWAYS played them...during meetings, during conference calls, during breaks, during other people's breakdowns, what have you.

Since the guitar was FREE he would often use it as a prize gift for some contest associated with the launch of another one of his harebrained schemes, one of which involved a "viral-marketing" scheme that required participants to spend all day on a website listening for a specific tone, and upon hearing it, "Click for "EarCashTM." He tried to sell the idea by claiming that it allowed marketers to not only attract end-user "eyeballs" but also their "ears"! He talked to a local renowned economist (at MIT at the time) and developed his own economy based on "EarCashTM", and if you're thinking this was anything like "Beanz" or "Flooz"...it wasn't. It was much, much, much more insane.)

Anyhow, he made the claiming process so convoluted that anyone who actually "won" the guitar was never able to actually pick it up. Six or seven different people, during the dot-com boom,  must have "won" this guitar at various times.

Eventually, he gave it to a local homeless street performer....and made him pay for it. Seriously. Remember, we got it for "FREE". So for weeks this homeless guy would perform for handfuls of pocket-change at a time - Did I mention the guy didn't know how to play guitar? - and stop by to deliver the money, often giving us an impromptu performance in the office, in the middle of an unrealistic deadline, surrounded by over-worked techies who just wanted to get their work done and go home. It was "KD's" idea of showing the man "work ethic" and of showing all of us "humility." In retrospect it was a clusterf*ck...

Funniest quote I've heard from someone who knew him and has now seen him on The Apprentice was this, "I've always questioned the validity of reality television and wondered how much they exaggerate the participants behavior through editing or what have you. However, after having seen "KennyD" on the show, it's forced me to have to totally reconsider my position...he's really is that much of an authentic @sshole!"

That's all for now...there is always more. I'm not sure how interesting these stories are, since I'm biased and they are all hilarious to me, in one way or another.

MrC. thank YOU!

I believe I will buy you a beer if I ever see you.

I think I understand, it's not that the guy was hilarious it was more a case of it is his world and we just rent space. Thank you for sharing your pain and I will leave you alone on the subject.

Oh, and I have no doubt he is going down in flames (although I have more hope for the book smarts team over the street smarts one)

We all learned in school that the world revolves around the sun; nobody told him, so naturally he thinks it revolves around him.

Just looking at the pic of him you can tell he's a self absorbed tosser that never quite learned the tie goes under the collar.  UNDER THE COLLAR.  It's not a bloody scarf.

Has anyone checked out his comments of which he has 1

Before the show started last night, I told my girlfriend, "Watch, tonight we'll see Danny completely morph into someone else because of Trump's criticisms". Lo and behold, the snake shed another skin. He will become whatever he thinks you want him to be in order to take advantage of you for his own personal gain, and he'll do so unashamedly. He has no personality otherwise.

Latest dish is that Danny's self-absored quest to make it on the Apprentice led him to neglect his company's biggest client and they may lose them within the next couple of months. This client accounts for 70%+ of his revenue, and without them a lot of people, most who are still my friends, will lose their jobs.

Somebody else pointed me to another ex-employee's "Bash Danny" thread (http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?showtopic=3122275&st=60&p=2423937&#entry2423937). Click on the above link and enjoy. I can 100% verify everything in the linked post. I don't know if I've met the poster, they are currently anonymous to me, but I agree with their sentiment completely. I don't think I've explained how many creative, ambitious people this loser has taken advantage of in the past. Hopefully some of that is coming back to haunt him.

Related Quotes from the Web:

"In 2000, when the internet consulting company I worked for shut down 50% of their satellite offices, it created a time-space vortex that sucked in all the neon decorations, Aeron chairs, pinball tables, free sodas, and, apparently, Danny. The rest of the dot-com detrius was lost forever, but Danny was inexplicably disgorged onto my TV screen, an artifact of days gone by, to remind me of those pizza- and coffee-fueled late-night sessions in creative futility, and be thankful that it's 2005 and the dot-com boom is over."

...

He's as vain and clueless as the most preened, know-nothing, small-weenied Armani-clad CEO, it just comes out a little differently. If he really wants all that attention, he should just try out for Silicon Valley Players' Hair revival. There's no shame in wanting to be naked, on a stage, with everybody looking at you and going, YAY!...just keep that <auto-censored> out of meetings and the boardroom, asscot.  <-----My favorite Quote!!!

PS - I have no idea when he started saying "Unbelievable". My friends
and I conjecture that he is trying to start a catchphrase. We doubt he
will be successful."

"When Danny comforted Verna and being the peppy team guy it reminded me of something he did last year. He had a habit of calling meetings for all different non business hour times, 7 AM or 9:30 PM it made no difference to him, since he lives upstairs in his office/bedroom.

An employee showed up for work and found that there was a meeting happening that had been going on for a couple of hours, she was traveling and hadn't got home to get her messages. Danny gave her grief about being "late" and that was the last straw and she quit, walked right out.

Danny, to his credit, went out after her and talked her into not quitting. Being all nice and in "kiss ass" mode.

A month later she was let go with no warning. How spiteful is that? It's like saying "you cannot quit, we must fire you". I had forgotten that story (there are so many), but that is why I look forward to Danny scenes in the boardroom."

He's done this sort of thing to more than one person.

Not much. My only concern is viewing the downfall of DannyK, so I won't go into the other boring details of the show. He made it through the 2nd episode by completely changing his tune and keeping a lower profile. He's no idiot, he just acts like one when it (polyester) suits him.

I just can't wait to see him fired. :)

How did the guy get on looking like an extra that casting rejected from Miami Vice?  For RUDY'S SAKE, man, SHAAAAAAAAVE YOU DIRTBALL! WASH YER DANG HAIR!

And to think, the guy got under my skin in so few sightings just for THAT!   I dunno how you did it....I may have tried to kill him my second week working with him!

Pure poetry. LOL

Did you savor the moment MrC?

I missed the show......    :'(

I spent the evening on the side of the freeway, after my car broke down. I was sooooo pissed. I told the tow-truck driver, "I HAVE to get home to see the Apprentice!!" and she just looked at me like I was psycho - which happens a lot, if you can believe it ;)

I had a feeling he wasn't going to make it past the third episode.

However, a copy of the show will soon make it's way onto the newsgroups where I'll download it and I'll share my reaction shortly afterward. I can't wait!!!

For a guy that does marketing as a business he sure sucks at it. I guess thats why he's the boss and just hires the creative people.

Both times he was in charge of marketing he botched it for the team.

He sings a song when he's driving away about how his whole team let him down.

Man, I caught the episode I saw on another channel, like TLC or something.  I saw it on a Saturday night, I'm sure of it.

But I never remember which channel is which when there are 800 of them.
