Problem:
-
Have you checked the power supply, solder joints on the board, the flyback transformer? These are all things that could cause it to 'die' even if it's not necessarily dead.
-
I have an 1979 Atari ideo pinball w/ 21" B/W monitor. IMO, the monitor still works, it has the glow of life on the tube/neck.
However, I have a guy that suppose to pick it this weekend but cancleed due to weather, so I have to hold on till next week. If nothing happens w/this deal, would you be interested ?
-
Where are you located?
-
I wonder if you could use a color monitor as a replacement, if you tie the Red, Green, and Blue inputs together and connect it to the B&W output. From additive color addition, RED + Green + Blue = White.
-
I am located in N. California.
While the neck of the monitor used to glow when it worked, it now simply makes a zapping sound and flickers with a blue light. A new cap kit was put on it previously, so those parts are fine.
-
Zap and blue light sounds like dead tube.
-
Almost sounds like you vented the neck.
-
That's been my expectation - the tube is dead.
I'm willing buy a new monitor to replace it, cost is not the primary concern, but don't know if it can be replaced or, if it can, with what.
Any other suggestions on replacement? Thanks for the advice so far.

Tubes generally vent only when you do something really bad to them, like jar them.
Ask on RGVAC if anyone has either a replacement tube or monitor.
-
Sudden temperature changes can crack the tube and vent it also.
According to the service manual you have a 22VATP4 picture tube. You can order this from Video Display Corp (1-800-241-5005 or sales@cathoderaytubes.com), Richardson Electronics (www.rell.com), Hawk-eye Picture tubes (www.hawkeyepicturetube.com), Clarke Electronics (www.picturetubes.net/clark.htm), and Budget Tubes (www.budget-tubes.com) as well as the parts department of Wells-Gardner Electronics.
