Hello,
Been looking for a cheap spinner for a while now with no luck. I found this one on ebay today:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=170&item=5158497615&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
Anyone familiar with these and no if they're any good? It's still a little more than I was hoping to spend, I was going to try to make one but I'm not confident I could pull it off.
Anyway, thanks in advance for any info!

It's not too bad of a spinner, it's not in the same league as the OSCAR or SLIK STIK models, but about on par with the NASTY spinner. I've used these more than once before and they are adequate for playing 360 games and others. If you are looking for a spinner with good spin time this isn't it, but if you want to play the occassional tempest or super sprint this will do fine.

There are several old threads on these, but darn if I know what to search for to find 'em. Seems like most people say they work pretty well, but feel a little more 'homemade' than buying an Oscar/SlikStik/Tempest/etc.

I built my own and except for the radioshack case its in, it was almost the same.
just a mouse hack with a hard drive bearing or some other type bearing.

Yeah, I was originally going to build one. It's completely foreign territory to me though. People say it's pretty easy, but the instructions look pretty scary if you aks me.

I have
a couple 1 hard drive bearing if you wanna try it out.

Sooo... what brand spinner is that?? ???

Good question. It says to go to mamespinner.com for more info - but there's no page there.
Not a good sign, I suppose.

I bought one of these from Gozur here, who I believe orignally got it from eBay. It looks identical to the one in the link above.
As was mentioned, it's not a bad spinner by any means. It works well, is easy to set up and gets the job done for the most part. It does NOT have a long spin time and is definitely NOT an Oscar spinner, but overall it is a pretty good deal.
I plan on putting it on my bartop. I've tested it with some 360 games and normal spinner games and haven't had any problems with it.

is it geared or free-spinning?
-
im not really sure what you mean Ray, but the spin times are extrememly low. A full revolution after release is about all it's good for, give or take.

I have one of these spinners and I can't get it to work properly. I've tried tweaking the settings many many times, but the results are still poor. Playing Arkanov, for example, the paddle is jittery as it moves in each direction, or it will reverse direction unexpectedly. It's unplayable. Tempest is playable, but still not great. The spinner came with recommended settings for MAME, but those didn't work that well either.
Again - this could be my settings. Does anyone have any advice for me to get it working properly?
