What speakers are those? how you interfacing them?
I was curious. I'm thinking redoing my sound system. What I have is fine for just mame, but for other stuff it sucks. I have some wharfdale bookselfs I might mount right behind my marquee. I'd have to redo the current board the speakers are on. The wharfdales, for bookshelf speakers, have awesome sound. Unfortunately hiding them inside would dimish the sound. So I might drill holes in the marquee..
now, since these are bookshelves, hooking them up to my computer is the biggest problem. I'd like to just find simple amp kit and then attach a volume control to the top of my cabinet.
Oh yeah, isn't it nice to have wheels on the cabinet:)
SirPoonga, here is what I did, depending on your experience with Car Stereos you can make a very nice sound system for cheap.
I got a used 12 volt HAM radio power supply (regulated) off of ebay, and used it to power an old car amp I had. I then got a cheap auto EQ with master volume on it to control the volume, and some auto speakers. Get a 1/8th to RCA adapter from Radio Shack, and voila! Total cost (since I already had the amp) was about $70, or the price of a nice set of amplified speakers.
I liked this so much, I decided to buy a 50 amp supply, 2 more amps, and since the EQ had front, rear, and sub outputs, I now have 5 1/4 coaxials on the top of the cabinet (in the facotry location), 6 1/2 coaxials on the bottom (custom installed with grills), and two 10 inch subs in an auto box that I set outside the cabinet.
I now have *great* video game sound that goes as loud as I need, and it doubles as a great sounding MP3 Jukebox (which is why I did all of this).
I used all throwaway brands (profile, Advent, etc) that are dirt cheap off of ebay since I wasn't looking for audiophile sound and I am very impressed with results. Email me if you want more info or pics.
I'm just guessing, but i don't think SP wants to spend $70 on a sound system...
BTW, I'm not too worried about sound on my cab. As long as it wasn't too tinny or muffled, some $30 PC speakers were fine by me. When I swap out my cab's PC, I'll probably give that one to my wife, and her machine will become a jukebox. That's when I'll get picky about sound!
And yes, having wheels makes things a LOT easier! ;)
Hey 1UP,
any chance we can get some shot of the wiring? I'd love to see how it's all routed........ where you've mounted your
I-PAC.... all that good stuff. :)
1UP,
Would it be possible for you to make your MAX models available for download at your site? I'm especially interested in the scale models you made for the joysticks, buttons and such, they would be such a great tool for planning cabs in 3D (if I ever get around to it). Especially since I have the same trigger sticks =)
Thx,
EA
How much bandwith did you go through 1up (and how much did it run you)?1UP,

I might post the models of the parts later on. Right now my bandwidth use is thru the roof, and I'm trying not to have too big a bill this month. Looks like things are leveling off though, so I might post them after the first of the month.
BTW, I recently realized that the models for my buttons are a little off. Actually, I discovered this when I had my CP artwork printed out, and the REAL buttons almost covered up the button labels! There was supposed to be more room around the buttons there... :P I actually made the buttons for another model that didn't have to be as accurate, and forgot to resize them properly... DOH!

free sites limit their bandwidth because they don;t have the hardware to handle. forum runs on.

I'm sure they have limits, they just don't tell you about it. But you'll find out when you get 60000 hits to your free site on the same day...Well,

Do you really get like that much hits? What happns if you run out?What...gotta wait like a month to get your site back online ????

I had over 85000 hits (I think that means how many clicks and links and pages got viewed within my site) most of those on the 17th (which happened to be a Friday -- don't you guys have anything else to do on a Friday night? ;) ) That was from over 1000 unique visitors! Everything peaked on Friday, then tapered off to something more like my usual traffic, which is about 1/5th of that.
Hello.. as I had already suspected, I will now have to eventually build another cab.. this just serves as an inspiration.. but a few questions:
1.) Is that flat black t-molding on the undersides edges? I always thought that might look odd, but it really is a nice touch..
2.) Is this MDF?
3.) Did you paint the inside of the cab black or is that laminate also?
4.) Did you get all your hinges/casters from a Home Depot/Lowes-type store? What kind of hinges for the front/back doors (my current cab just uses regular hinges which look a bit out of place)?
Nope, black prelaminate particle board (melamine). (Guess I should put that on my site...)
Yo,weren't you makin fun of my cabinet the other day?
Like its only particle board inside and would be damaged with water or something(Heh...like a care.I sold the cab already).
Anyways,
Had a simple little question, where did you get that speaker grills again? They look cool and I was thinking maybe I get those. Also, what did you use when you laminated melamine wood with yellow formica?
Contact cement? does it bond well?
Any problem using contact cement over melamine wood?
Control Panel ???
On the prototype it appears you have the one / two player buttons on a separate panel that doesn't rotate (that makes sense - don't need to buy three sets of those that way). On the finished cabinet I can't see any seam for that part, or did you decide on losing the stationary part and added those buttons to each side?
Thanks
btw - one bad --I'm attempting to get by the auto-censor and should be beaten after I re-read the rules-- design
