I am setting up all the ini and cfg files for mame and other emmys and am considering the pros and cons of running all the roms from either the hard disk or a 'swappable' dvd rom. has anyone tried this both ways and can you possibly give and info/experiences/views you may have on this?
On the face of it, it would seem a good idea to have all the files (and revisions, omissions, etc) stored off the machine on another system, and only the current files to be used would be burned onto a disc and left permanently in the drive, until such time as i need to make a revised/updated disc. So if for arguments sake my files were on a dvd on drive D:, all the paths in any ini or config referred to in any of the emulators or front ends would reference a path on d:\mame\roms\...... etc, on a disc drive as opposed to the HDD. Obviously a sensible organisation of the directory structure would be prudent here.
Could i have the emmy exe files running from here too? what are the issues with speed, performance, etc? Is it more manageable, assuming i had a sensible file and directory structure?
If anyone has been there done that and bought the t-shirt i'd love to hear your views...thanks. ;D

AdvanceCD is a bootable live CD, DVD and USB disk of a minimal Linux distribution containing the AdvanceMAME emulator. You can boot it in any PC and play the contained games without any installation. The default distribution contains the arcade games Gridlee, Poly Play and Robby Roto and it uses only 20 Mbyte leaving the whole disk for your roms.
