Title: Help with VGA arcade monitor
Post by: Karman on October 15, 2002, 04:39:24 pm
I just purchased a 19" VGA arcade monitor.  It has a VGA cable so hookup was not a problem.  It works great with MAME and ArcadeOS with the exception of the older vertical games (Galaga, Centipede, etc) - they display about 6 or 7 inches tall on the screen.  When I run them vertically (sideways on the monitor) they look great.

I installed Advanced Mame to get around this, but I don't have the specs for the monitor.  I tried contacting the manufacturer with no luck (my monitor, although brand new, is a discontined model, etc. etc.).  I tried the Wells Gardner VGA specs in ADVCFG with no luck - only the resolutions of 360X?? work in ADVV.  The rest just flicker and go black.

Does anyone have a set of specs I can try on this monitor or a fix other than Advance MAME?

what version of mame are you running? windows or dos? windows mame ought to work like a charm. give mame32 a shot. no configuration should really even be necessary. (at least i don't think so.)

I'm using DOS mame (the most recent version) and AdvanceMame (when I can get it to work).

I forgot to mention that the only spec I received from the manufacturer (TelcoVision) is that the monitor runs at 31.5Khz and "everything else is standard VGA" (yeah right - whatever that is).  I mentioned that I needed the vertical front porch, sync rate, etc. and that threw them for a loop.
