Title: button numbers/backdrop-newbie!

Hi all,
   Couple of questions: I am putting 6 buttons per player on my new console, when you number the buttons, should I number 1,2,3 top line then 4,5,6 bottom line when hooking it up? I 'm really looking at how they are configured on MK, street fighter etc.
Also, I cant seem to work out how to put a backdrop on the menu screen for arcadeos, cant find it in doc file or anywhere else.
