Title: Marquee Help???
Post by: IncrdblHulk7 on January 15, 2005, 01:29:42 pm
Here is my cabinet project thread ...
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=26945.0

I have some more updated pics that I still need to post.  I have completed everything ... except the marquee!!!

The visible area of the marquee slot is 5.25" x 23" - so it is a little smaller than most normal marquees.

I was hoping to name my cab "Absolut Arcade" and have the marquee sort of like one of those cool Absolut Vodka Ads.

Example: Have an Absolut Vodka bottle - with Absolut Arcade on the label and the silhouette of an arcade machine etched on the bottle.  The trouble with this is that I dont have much height to my marquee.

Any other ideas or help?  My attempts at making this have resulted in very frustrating results - since I am not that good with Illustrator.

Thanks

I would recommend something that is actually clever, like the real absolut ads. Some of the absolut ads can be rather dull, but many are toungue in cheek & thoughtful. Rather than trying to recapture the look of the photographed vodka bottle, approach it a little more in the style of the original arcade marquees... more of a graphic look for starters would help you display the bottle in a way that is clear enough for people to get the joke. You could

1. Incorporate the bottle as a letter in one of the original marquees (with the tag "absolut arcade" underneath.

2. You could use the bottle as a joystick... the marquee could look like a big CPO with the bottle stick in the middle, with the tag underneath (and smallish) It could either be right-side-up or upside-down.

3. You could use the bottle as a replacement for the hero depicted on many

OK - here is my first attempt at my marquee.  Open to comments and suggestions.  The yellow border denotes the visible area.

I tried to make the Power Pellets be Absolut Vodka bottles - but I don't know how well you will be able to see the small bottle.  ????

I'll help you out on one thing. I've attached the absolut logo as a PDF. I have some other suggestions too, but I don't have time to comment in detail right now... maybe tonight.

actually, I've created the "absolut arcade" words in the correct font.

For those of you playing at home the Absolut font is a subtle variation on Futura Extra Bold Condensed, with some negative letterspacing. I used the Absolut logo, plus the word arcade in the correct font. The only difference between the font version and the actual logo was a very small difference in the "s" and some kerning here and there. Rather than match it, I just used the first part of the logo.

Where can I get that Font?  It is not built-in the Adobe tools?
