ok, heres the next question, first it was webhost, then about web creation, now videos =P
so anyway, i have a digital camera that can also do videos with sound, by default it puts them in AVI format and their size isnt too bad its like 40MB for 2 minutes which is about 1 PopN Music song. They come out decent, but i have this program that came with the camera that can adjust brightness/contrast, add text , etc. and i used it to make my video brighter and add a little caption in the beginning and i resaved it, and it came out at 275MB !!

tmpg is a great piece of software, which can create mpeg files for you, and is highly configurable
http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html
and thats the free version
edit: also videohelp.com is a must for learning key strategies for encoding video
-
XVID is an awesome codec and virtual dub is a good free conversion program (does editing too but I've never tried it that way).
Try taking that 275MB file and XVID encoding it through virtual dub.

MPEG is OK, but it's compression rates are horrible. It's mainly for encoding so you can burn to VCD/SVCD/DVD. At 33MB, you won't be able to make out any detail at all in MPEG/MPEG2

Cool video... although the first 10 seconds are gibberish, then it clears up.
U r a PopN Music Freak, lol.

im using video dub, i select Xvid codec, what do i actually click to make it start compressing?
nevermind i figured it out, it came out 22MB but now whenever i try to open the file it gives me an explorer error... damn i didnt know video compression was so complicated

Video dub or virtual dub - http://www.virtualdub.org/ ?
Did you get the latest stable build of XVID?
Are you using a player that supports XVID? (I use BSplayer)
-
i DLed BSplayer, works good. thanks for the help
using DivX (fast motion) compression the 275MB brightness/contrast edited video comes out at 33MB. woot =)
now to go shoot some better videos
