Title: Do you use Nextel ?
Post by: DrewKaree on January 13, 2005, 12:05:22 pm
I'm just wondering who here uses it, either the regular or the Boost version.
Looking for some apps / games you like and can tell me about. My wife should be getting her phone today, and I haven't looked at 'em in quite a while (since I last loaded my phone up) so mebbe something new / useful / cool has come up that I need for MY phone.
She's gonna have a wallpaper changer on her phone - anyone have that or know where to get it for a 730?

32 views and nobody? Anyhoo I found a few more...I'm good.
In answering my own question I went to where I used to frequent....if you have a cel phone AT ALL, this is the place to go, they cover most all things wireless - HOFO - www.howardforums.com (http://www.howardforums.com)
Anything from Siemens to T Mobile to Sprint/Nextel.....blah.

Hi, my name is Pyro, and I am a Nextel user ;D (I have an i730)
I just caught this post and thought I would add my 2 cents.
I was going to recommend howardforums.com as a great resource, but I see you have already found it!
Have you played with the iDEN WebJAL software yet? It lets your computer communicate with your phone to load games, wallpapers, java apps, etc. I don't know how much I can help, but if you would like to shoot me a pm, I will share what I know.

Yeah, actually, I'm a user from way back to the 2000 models. I've got a 730 too, and I just got my wife a 710. WebJAL is up and running (I also screwed up my old i88 once ;D ) and I've got some stuff working, I just hadn't searched for anything new since IDEN Insider went down.
Hey, did you get your free USB Data Cable or at least check to see if Nextel will send ya one?
I'm also looking for a LEATHER construction case for my 730, but all I can find is NYLON, which sucks.
Hey, as far as I know, I've got everything from HoFo for apps & games, if you need something, drop me a PM too, they're all pretty small zips.
If you know anything about modding the codeplug, I'm definitely down for some help on that!

I also have a collection of games, java apps, some ringtones, some wallpaper, etc. If I remember right, I grabbed a lot of stuff from HoFo also.
I got a USB cable with some chargers/holsters/something-or-others that I got on eBay when I first got my phone. A few months ago my buddy had two cables sent to him from Motorola. I never did contact them to get mine, but my buddy gave me his, so I have plenty now. I should ebay a couple of them actually!
I can honestly say that I haven't heard of "modding the codeplug", but it sounds like something I would love to do! ;D

It'll let you change the pallettes (the butt ugly plain-Jane colors of your menus and whatnot) and some other stuff like transparent clock and whatnot, but that'll require some serious looking into on those types of forums.
Those forums are usually inhabited by kiddies who find it "helpful" ::) to tell you to "SEARCH NOOB, SEARCH", which usually results in dozens of other threads related to your question only because the original poster asked the same question and hundreds of knobs told you to "search"...which leads to...well, you can see where THAT leads to.

I would be interested in changing the pallettes on my phone... I was bored with the stock ones from the start. I'll have to look into that.
It seems that a majority of the forums are inhabited by people like you describe, but in their defense, I would imagine it is difficult to have to answer the same questions over and over again just because people couldn't do a little searching on their own. In defense of the newbies, sometimes a quick question and answer is just what is needed to get over that "I know nothing about this" hump.
Anyway, back to Nextel...
I haven't come across an automatic wallpaper changer, although that certainly doesn't mean that one doesn't exist.
One game that my wife and I enjoy is Bejeweled. It's a great puzzle game, vaguely reminiscent of Tetris, that is very playable on a small phone screen. If you don't have this one, let me know, and we can figure something out.

Here ya go....a little crossing of interests - phone & arcade!
Yep, Bejeweled, one of the most addictive games known to man! Got it, but thanks!

I'm a Nextel user. I have the Motorola i530.
Amazon.Com Link (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/wireless/B000177F7S/pictures/14/104-4092422-0020712#more-pictures) (http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000177F7S.01.PT02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg)
It's big, dorky, rubberized for shock resistance, has a monochrome screen, no games, no wall paper, no camera, pretty boring really.
The only cool thing is that it has a speaker phone. That makes it really easy to talk while your driving. Just hit the speakerphone button and put it on the seat next to you.
I think it also has a GPS or something but I've never used it because I think it costs extra.
