I have a couple PSOne 5" LCD screens left ovber from an abandoned project and I was wondering if anyone can think of a practicle use for one on a MAME cabinet.
Idealy, it would be cool to display a color representation of the controls for the selected game, but I'm not sure how I'd go about this.
I haven't yet seen anyone use a PSOne screen in MAME. If anyone knows of any sites where it's done or has any ideas, I'd appreciate hearing them.
Thanks.

Save the screen and instead of putting it in your cab, install it in the headliner or sunvisor of your car, then adapt the video output to a laptop stuffed in the trunk, or under a seat.
Run a thumb-stick to the center console....BAM....instant mp3 jukebox for your car.

Funny you mention that... ;D
That is pretty much what my abandoned project was to be. I was going to put a laptop in my Jeep with MP3 and GPS capabilities and the PSOne screen on the dash for display, but decided against it.

If you have multiple 5" lcd screen, why not mount them alongside eachother as a marque for your cab? Along with a front-end that changes the marque to display the original marquee you will have something really cool.
You could also use it as the top screen for the VS System and MegaTech.
Another application would be to display game instructions, button configs, administrator settings, pr0n...

I'd like to use it for game instructions, and button configs. I'll have to put some thought into that in my "spare" time.
I don't think I'd want to go with something complicated like a marquee.
Having a screen of high scores would be cool too.
Hmmm...
As for pr0n, a 5" screen is way too small for that
