Buy the cheapest case you can find and take the back off of that....
-
well that is another option
-
check a local shop and see if they have any extras
-
no one i know of actually sells just that part. i just got a really old crappy case for free from a friend and decased it
-
any idea what i call that part to look it up online?
-
I have a couple of junker cases in my backyard, but you could probably buy a cheap case for what it would cost for me to ship.
Unless of course you are local?

motherboard tray?
o_O
Sheet of metal.. risers.. screws..
seriously..
or um, if you want a whole case, i have fat hookups. lol
-
Probably wants it for the ability to seat cards and secure with a screw.

some cases have that whole back piece as one large chunk of metal, like the one soapboy pictured...I'm just gonna have to wait to see what Mobo im gonna put in this thing and get one that matches it.
I want to do someting like this guy did

why not just stick it in a case in the cab, or just screw down your mobo to wood?
-
OHHH
i see what your doing now..
just put a peice of wood on top of the hole, and drill out the speaker holes and stuff.. can mount the cards to that thin strip of wood..

im going to screw the mobo to wood. I just want a nice clean back panel, like a computer

Yes you can.
Lian li made their motherboard tray available. But I can't remember who sold them. It was only one shop and I thought it was crazypc.com, but they don't seem to have them. To make a long story short, it was about 50 or 60 bucks, much more expensive then buying the cheapest case you can find then hacking it.
-
Look on pricewatch.com. I've seen some cases for around 5 dollars (without shipping). Good Luck!
-
There is at least one case that has the motherboard tray and the back panel together as one section. That would be ideal...
The other solution is to use an all-in-one motherboard so you don't need cards. They don't have the greatest sound or video, but they're usually fine for MAME.
-
Look for the cheapest motherboard you can find with a slide out motherboard tray.
Then throw away the rest of the computer.
If possible, go to a local computer show.
You can always find REEEEEEAAALLLLY crappy cheap cases there.
Oh, and never use the power supply that comes with a $15 (or less) case.
They're so poorly made, you risk damaging your hardware by using it.
-
Just go to your local mom and pop used computer store and buy the cheapest case they have and cannibalize it.
-
just go around your neiborhood on garbage night and usually you see something you like :)
-
going through all the trouble of building a nice wooden case only to stick a chunck of metal in it seems , well a waste , you can do the whole thing in wood , just use small wood screws to secure the cards to a strip of wood , like the screwes used on handles of kitchen cabinets
