Title: Anybody doing 8liners monitor conversions?
Post by: Ken Layton on January 11, 2005, 12:24:30 pm
Haven't heard much on the 8liners topic lately. Anybody out there doing any 8liners (in reality the Jen Shinn chassis) monitor chassis conversions of broken/non-repairable/oddball monitors?

I've been really torn lately between buying a new monitor and doing a chassis conversion for my 25" Midway cabinet. I called 8liners and got a few dimensions and specs, but the language barrier is a bit difficult to get through. I'm leaning towards the whole monitor assembly as opposed to just the chassis.

If anyone else has the chassis installed on a 25", I'd like to know how it goes. Maybe a tutorial for the conversion would get a lot more people thinking about replacing chassis instead of going for the whole package. I know I'm not the only one who's scared....

Is there anyone willing to write a tutorial with pics on how to install an 8liners (JenShenn) chassis?

That's funny, I had no problem at all getting to 8liners.com

The Genao.com is his other site.

I just contacted 8Liners about shipping a couple of boards to the UK. No probs. I just scanned through the instructions on their site and retyped them in english so I could get an idea on what I'm getting into. I'm going to phone a couple of TV repair shops to see if they have any cheap TV's or scrap ones with OK tubes.

I used one chassis on a G07 that went bad in my Galaxian before I knew how to repair monitors.  It works great (the game has since been sold).
I used another in a Space Invaders Deluxe cocktail (color 13")that had an oddball monitor in it.  I couldn't find schematics or capkit for it.   I capped the existing chassis and replaced a few transistors and couldn't get it working.  I called 8liners, got a replacement chassis, and all is working again.

I've got a nice minty 27" waiting for a cab to put it in with a 8liners. Still has a little problem with blooming.
(Probally a weak power supply design) but other that that it look really good.
No pincushion/geometry problems.
