Title: Player's Choice Games- Split Screen?
Post by: eyal8r on January 09, 2005, 06:31:09 pm
Hey guys-
All of my 'Player's Choice' games are split in half on the screen- ie- the top is on the bottom, and bottom is on the top. Any ideas how to fix it?
Thanks
D

You don't, the originals used dual monitors.

Dual monitors?  How's that work?  Even with dual monitors, the image would be split weird.  Can you explain?

Also- is there any way to get those games to work (perhaps different versions of them or something?)
Thanks
D

Look up info on playchoice 10.  The top half on the mame output is the top monitor, the bottom is the bottom monitor.

I am thinking that your explanation of the problem is just not being understood.

In the arcade they were on dual monitor systems. You had game selection stuff on the top monitor, and the actual game on the bottom one. In MAME both views are displayed on one, but stacked as they actually would have been with 2.

There is a single monitor PC-10 board, but MAME does not emulate it directly.  I have heard a few reports of custom compiling MAME to enable it.

Additionally, if you want single screen, you can use the NES Versions with an NES Emulator such as FCE Ultra, RockNES, LoopyNES, FwNES, etc.

It's possible to display only the lower half of the screen using AdvanceMAME.
You need to define a resolution of 256x240 (half the vertical resolution of 480).
You'll need to set the display_resize to none and you'll want to use the display_skiplines command to automatically scroll to the lower half of the screen.
Then you might want to set the game to freeplay so you don't need to worry about the timer.
Also, you can use AdvanceMAME's script commands to select the game automatically since the selection screen won't be visible.
