Anyone know where I can find the exact paint color for the NEO GEO red??
-
Actually the dedicated Neos were not painted red. They are covered in red vending machine self-stick vinyl.
-
Mine is covered in black vinyl.
-
Well, I'd rather not have to deal with the viny so I think I'm going to paint it. Looks like someone spray-painted the red vinyl black, and I'm going to paint it red again. Probably after removing the vinyl. Any idea on the color?

Hey Ken...
...any idea where some red vending machine self-stick vinyl can be located?
-
When I worked for Capitol Amusement we bought some red vending vinyl from Wico (one of the few times they didn't screw up an order) and it was great stuff. Of course this was back in 1989. Nowadays you should try Happ Controls, Vendors Exchange (www.veii.com), Capital Vending, Mazzco, Great Amusement Emporium, etc.

What a coincidence. I have a black Neo Geo that I'm in the process of painting red too. I spent today filling gouges and scratches & giving it a couple of coats of sealer/ primer. I'm not super particular about the color so tomorrow I'm just going to take the marquee to Lowes or Home Depot and have them match it. You may consider doing the same.
Does anyone know of a place that sells the sideart decals? I'm planning on having them cut locally from white vinyl, but if they're available somewhere pre-made I may go that route.

I'd be interested in the decals too...
I received this paint formula from the guys at NEO GEO.com. I'm going to take that and a chip from the vinyl to Home Depot and see what they come up with....
Colorant OZ 48 96
KX White 0 2 0
R Exterior RE 3 36 1
U Magenta 0 8 1

Thanks, I'll take that with me to Home Depot as well.
Sending you a PM regarding the decals.

cool a company was actually useful and gave a paint code? very awesome

As far as I know neo-geo.com is just a fan site, and not affiliated with SNK/ Playmore. I'm still suprised he was able to get any useful info out of them. 90% of the members on their forums seem to be there only for the purpose of flaming each other.
Regarding the paint. Gloss, semi-gloss, satin, flat, which would be appropriate? I'm thinking semi-gloss, but it's been so long since I've seen one in the wild I don't remember how shiny the red is.

well the red on a real cab is from the vinyl not paint, so really there is no "true" paint type to be authentic. but the sticker itself is probably semi gloss in appearance
-
Thanks you for re-stating what Ken said in the second post of this thread. ;)
Can anyone do better than "probably"?

Does any of you have a series I cabinet? If so, I'd love measurements. I've been trying to get them for quite a while. Thanks.

Well the kid who was matching paint at Lowes (he looked all of about 14) just looked puzzled when I showed him this, so I picked a chip off the shelf that was pretty close to the color of my marquee and had him mix up some of that for me. The first coat looks pretty good. I'll give it a second coat tonight.

but thats my point , there is nothing better than "probably". because there is no true red paint..
-
I think I'm getting some Neo Geo bezels soon. Anyone need one?
-
I want one provided it will fit my cab. Let me know when you get them in.

Looks good, but I think you have a conversion cabinet.

Centipede.
-
yeah personally i hate those short little CPs, you got no room to rest your hand
-
Yeah, I know it's a conversion. I just wanted it to look more like a real Neo Geo. I don't belive it was a Centepede though. The Jamma harness inside looks to be original. Centepede cabs are shaped slightly different from this one as well.
