Title: What's up with my arcade monitor?
Post by: moonpatrol 4 lyfe on January 09, 2005, 10:51:07 am
I have a Konami GI Joe Arcade Cab, it looks like it was formerly a TMNT...

The monitor works, but the picture seems a little wrong too me,  I dont know if its blurry, too pixelated, or maybe its just in my head.

Moving on to the bigger problems =)
- Theres a bright glow coming from the right side of the screen.
- When I put the game into its video test mode, I notice that the very very top of the screen is distorted to the right
- When there are BIG explosions on the screen, it starts acting crazy.  This quickly subsides, and I can get back to playing.

If it was just for the first 3 issues, I wouldn't even bother saying anything.  The game is completely playable.  Just figured its normal wear and tear on the monitor, especially considering the BEATING it took when the guys I bought it from helped me load it in the back of the truck.  .... deep gashes in the side art.... skids from the particle board on their driveway.... makes my blood want to boil.  Plus I found a huge rock in the control panel.  I was like HUH?  Probably from the back of my truck.

Anyways....  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Bill

If the monitor has not had a fresh capkit put in then I would suggest doing that first above all else and then see how it looks and runs. You haven't told us the make & model of the monitor.

unfortunately I dont have the key that opens up the back of the cabinet.  i can get to the inside of the machine by removing the control panel, but that's it.  did konami use generic keys?  or will i need to drill out the locks and buy new ones?

would the name of the monitor be located anywhere else besides the monitor itself?

you can either drill it out or some people have had success jamming a blade screwdriver in there and twisting it open--either way--thats the only way to know for sure what monitor you are working with.

Those Konami/Dynamo cabinets did not use a generic back door lock, but I have seen that have had a generic NATIONAL C-413a or C-415a lock & key installed. You could just drill out the lock and replace it with a new one.

Monitor nameplate will be found on the monitor itself.
