Title: mame help?
Post by: neelyre on January 08, 2005, 02:14:46 pm
Hey gamers,

kinda novice to mame but am building my own arcade cabinet using an athlon 2.4 Ghz cpu 256 ram, on board vga (basic, nothing fancy like ATI) and decent hard drive. I'm using a Sylvania 27" tv as my monitor.

Everthing seems to be going well. I just installed the latest mame there is (mame090) and installed two test roms (Aliens & ms. pacman).

Aliens loads and plays fine although it takes a moment to launch. Ms. pacman...that's the problem. It comes up SIDEWAYS on my monitor. I realize that it was originally a vertical screen game and that it might just be defaulting to appearing on the screen sideways, but I'd like to know the best way to remedy this.
Before anyone kindly responds, here's what I have already tried:

-changed screen resolutions and refresh rates
-rebooted computer and launched from front ends
-made sure there are no controls on the tv or within windows xp.

Is there a way to change the settings for THIS game. I don't want to rotate my monitor sideways and I'd "like" to avoid re-compiling mame altogether for this one game. Any other tricks people can recommend or alternante Mame emulators. Whatever you can think of. Many thanks.

try putting this:

norotate 1

in your mame\ini\mame.ini file

this should keep all games from rotating

thanks for responding,

as I said I'm a novice. Can you tell me how to "inject" that into that file. And where is that file also?

Sorry,

I saw where to make the change. Thanks.

The mame config menus are right side up now but the game still loaded sideways, although now it's full screen. Any other ideas?

What is your video card? I was running Mame on a Dell with Intel onboard video. The intel video was automatically auto-rotating vertical games. I found no way to fix the problem (until I sold the Dell).

Thanks,

that might me what's going on. It's an onboard video card from an AMD sempron 2400 motherboad. I'll try to get an alternate pci video card today and see if that helps. Otherwise, I'll let you know. Thanks for the response and stay tuned! :)

Are you sure it's not in cocktail mode? If so you need to pause and tab in game to change it.
