I dunno.  I'm looking for a cheap, used boombox or stereo with inputs for my cab.

Buy a pair of el cheapo computer speakers, bust them open, get the amp from inside those speakers and hook up your 3'' speakers to that amp. Hook the amp up to the computer and you are set.

how much electrical knowhow is involved in that?

probably just soldering my speakers to where the others were located on the pc speaker amp....right?

Yeah all PC speakers should have one. You can go from the hard way of soldering new audio wire to the existing amp PCB or use the wires already there, solder them to some quick connects and attach them to the speakers.

this site is the BEST!

thanks for the suggestion - i bought a pair of pc speakers at walmart for $10....unscrewed the back, snipped the wires going to the speakers, twisted my wires around that with those plastic twisty connectors!

voila!  they work like a charm!

it was almost too easy.

thanks for the advice.

The hard part is lining up the circuit board to allow for the volume control to be changed from outside your cab.

http://www.acscontrol.com/index_ACS.asp

Click on the PC Audio Amp link in the left hand column.

Then for volume control go to:

www.valcoelectronics and look at these two part numbers:

AT-10
AT-10D

These are L-Pads that are able to handle volume adjustment for an amplified signal. This makes for a great setup. I have this in two cabinets and am getting ready to install it in my third cabinet.

Enjoy,
John
