Hey guys,
I have a soul calibur machine which had a dead monitor in it. It was a Wells Gardner K7000. I purchased a NeoTec 2515C and it just arrived so I am installing it.. except I have a little problem. First, the power connector is different on the new monitor than the old.. It still has 3 wires just not the same conector on the end and the wire colors are different.. The second problem is before the video connector came in 2 pieces.. like it had a 6 pin piece and an additional 3 pins. The new connector on the monitor only has 6. Here on some pics bellow to help u understand what I mean:
heres the power connector thats in the CAB:

heres the power conenctor that on the new monitor:

heres the video connector on the OLD monitor.. the new just has the six pins:
and heres the video connector thats in the CAB which fits the old but not the new:

My guess would be I need to splice wires and such but Im not sure which ones and what. Thanks!!

for power connector..
what on the cab trace which one (purple/purple-w/yelow) is hook up to the chassis ground and hook that up to the NEW power connector BLACK color.
Then the GREEN to GREEN and WHITE to (what ever is left purple or purple/yellow).
For the RGB G V/S H/S
You suppose to have six.

OK, for the power connector: on the old monitor purple went into the black so I guess purple must be the ground and yellow-purple must be white since it went into white on old monitor. As for the RGS VS HS connector: Mine has red, green, brown(I asume its the same as blue),black then two emtpy spaces.. on the other connector I have two sapces then a white. Should I take the white out of the other connector and put it in the main 6pin one? If so, what hole should it go in?
-
lets get rid of the RGB and ground part..
connect the RGB to RGB on the PCB and ground, sometimes the ground is on the second connector.

looking agina closely at your picture, it looks like you only have 5 wires ?
so it would be
1 2 3 4 5 6

oh no, this monitor is getting hooked up to a real arcade board :P (soul calibur to be presice!).. but here let me re-explain the story with that connector cuz I think I did it confusingly... The conectors that are in the CAB are 2 blocks... first block is a 6pin with all but the last 2 slots filled.. and the 2nd is a 3 pin with the last slot filled only. This connected into the OLD monitor no problem.. the NEW monitor does NOT have the 3pin connector on it...Should I take the wire from the 2nd block and put it in slot 5 no the 6pin one?
-
ok...
the RGB GND is done...the only thing left is 5 and 6 and you have one wire.
That one wire will be hook up to 5 and nothing on six. If you look at you Sould Caliber Manual, it should say something about connecting it to NEG V/Sync(Composite), so just hook it up to 5 and your set. You might not even need to destry the second block, just hook it making sure the WHITE wire is hook up to 5.
You better hope that the NEW monitor will accept COMPOSITE SIGNAL, like I mentio above, some monitors don't work unless you hook up the V/H separately, if this the case, you need to look at your Soul Caliber PCB and see it it has separate V/H also.

kk ill give it a shot! :)
-
I edited my reply, re-read above about making sure your NEW monitor supports COMPOSITE.
-
OK, I turned the monitor on with it all hooked up and there are white horizontal lines about 1" appart going accross the screen and and an image seems to be all messed up... what do you supose I try?
-
Like I said above. Does the NEW monitor support COMPOSITE signal?
I'm not sure, I look at the manual and I did not see anything mentioning COMPOSITE.
-
I dunno... is there a way to tell by looking at the board? Ill try searching around google to see what I can find.. so far ive found nothing.. could it be that something like VHOLD on the monitor controls is off?
-
looking at page 5, it say Separate V/H and not a mentioned of COMPOSITE.
Here is an example of Mentioning COMPOSITE on a Well Gardner monitor. It say it can be Separate or Composite.
http://www.happcontrols.com/monitors/49072600.htm
But this Neotec Manual only mentioned separate v/h. So if this is so true, your next move will be,
you need to look at your Soul caliber Manual to see it you can/have a separate V/H for connection and take it from there.
We know that the Soul is connected to COMPOSITE (old Monitor) but I dunno if there is a jumper/setting on Soul's PCB to amke it separate.
-
ok.. heres what I found in the manual... on one of the diagrams I belive it is showing seperate signals... here I scanned the diagram as a whole PLUS the highlighted area im talking about. What do you think?
Diagram as whole:

why are you looking at the WG7400 monitor manual ? I thought your new Monitor is a NEOTECH ?
-
Oh im not.. that was in the Soul Calibur Instruction Manual... so if its showing another monitor diagram with it split then shouldnt it support the seperate singals?
-
looking at the JAMMA connector, it is
R G B Gnd SYNC (which is only one wire, which is COMPOSITE).
You need to see if SOUL Caliber manual has an option to use separate V/H sync and you need to modify your JAMMA connector to have separate v/h.
If this could be done, then the your VIDEO SYNC (labled P) you can connect it to PIN 5 and then find a available spot (like labled S)in your JAMMA connector and hook it to the SOULS PCB then connect it to PIN 6.
-
Bottom line:
If SOUL CALIBER does not have an option to use separate V/H sync, I guess your new monitor you got will not work. You need to get another monitor that will support COMPOSITE sync. The WG 7400 is a good candidate for your game.
Maybe there is a way to make it work by using a a CHIP but thats beyond me.
If Ken Layton sees this thread maybe he could guide you how (if its possible).

i fixed the problem! When i plugged the white wire into the 6th pin it worked! and after adjusting focas and screen control the image looks nice now too :) Thank you ssoo ssoo much for your help I really appriciate it!
-
glad it worked out...
I'm re-reading the whole thing again and notice this
"first block is a 6pin with all but the last 2 slots filled.. and the 2nd is a 3 pin with the last slot filled only"
PIN 5 is VERTICAL and PIN 6 is Horizontal
and in the old connection, this white wire is connected to -H (Horizontal), we missed that one. Mostly alot of COMPOSITE connection uses the VERTICAL sync.
