I am getting to the stage where I need to design my sideart (put it off for long enough)...
I want something generic and non game specific really, which would go with my marquee:
-
...anyway I have always been fond of this guy...
You could say it's game specific but I never noticed this dragon graphic used except on this flyer (high res. one at www.arcadeflyers.com ). Do you think if combined with something to suit the marquee that the dragon would be a good start?
Comments, advice etc. would be great :)

i think that dragon would look great vectored, nice simple colours :D, i dont really like the name system 1 though, kinda reminds me of system 3 (the last ninja on the c64... class game!) the font is cool though, mabe a name something to relate to the dragon??

CinemArcade (http://www.cinemarcade.com/) has designed some amazing homebrew early Atari styled cab art.

A Quote from his homepage:
"My latest creative project to occupy my free time is to try and create a series of illustrations based on classic arcade game genres. No specific titles, just genres. You know, racing games, space games, fantasy games, whatever. Inspired by the artwork of George Opperman (Early Atari artist & designer of the original Atari logo in 1972) and others, the goal is to create illustrations that are in the same style of the early Atari arcade cabinets like Centipede, Asteroids, and Gravitar."
You can get it printed as a poster. I don't know how well that would work as side art. Maybe you could work something out with him if you like it. Like he would send the vector to the printer of you choice... ::shrug::

That's pretty cool, I like the style...
I think the fantasy one is a bit too genre-specific for me though (actually I have gone away from the dragon idea a bit) - I just think it won't suit my cab when I have the driving/yoke panels in place :-\
Thanks for the heads up though, very interesting :)
