Title: Converting a Cabinet
Post by: DreamWeb on January 02, 2005, 08:20:53 pm
Hey folks!

I am able to get this cabinet from someone who is offering it to me for free.  Which is very nice of him.

I'm not yet sure what the cabinet is... but, I suspect it was originally a golden tee cabinet.

My question is...  Is that do you think this would make for a suitable Mame Cabinet conversion?  I was thinking a 2 player cabinet, but now I wonder if a 4 player would be even better.. considering the size of this cab.

What do you think the dimensions of this thing would be?

Thanks!

d.,

That would make a fine two or four player cab.  I'd do two players.  Standard SF setup, with a trackball in the middle.  Heck, it appears you already have the CP for the trackball set up!

Excuse my newbiness.  What do you mean by "Standard SF setup"?  Thanks!

"Street Fighter"

6 Buttons for each Joystick, goto www.klov.com and look up Street Fighter to see what I mean.

Oh!  Now it seems obvious.  Yes, I agree with you.  That would be the setup I'd go for.

Does this look like an old Golden Tee unit to you?

Looks like it was originally a Konami Main Event game.

Looks like it was originally a Konami Main Event game.

The monitor is lying back too much, and the marquee area is too large.  But it's close.

I think it was a Gauntlet II.

Gaunlet 2----yeh, now that's more like it. Sounds about right.

I'm with the Gauntlet crowd.

I have a question, and it applies as much to anyone else as it does to this thread's starter:

Why does the player # choices always seem to be between 2 players or cramming 4 players? What's wrong with supporting 3 players?

That's a pretty terrific option, actually.

But, most multiplayer games are either 2..  or 4.  So, 3 would be a bit odd.  But, should be considered.

Thanks!  And, I think everyone is right.  Gauntlet 2!

There have been a few 3 player games  ;)

Rampage, Battletoads, Xenophobe, Mercs, Combatribes ...

Besides, all 4 player games BECOME 3 players games if you only have 3 controls.  ;D

The problem with a 3-p setup is that it doesn't work very well for TWO players.
With a 4-p setup, you end up with p-1 and p-2 centered on the front of the cab.
With a 3-p setup, p-2 ends up off to one side.

Not a HUGE deal, but could be annoying for your buddy that always gets stuck off to the side.

Bah, my buddy would be the Guest in my home and I would graciously offer him the P1 spot.  ;)
