I'm just wondering how many people stand while playing their arcade, and how many people sit? If you do sit down, do you have a bar stool or something else? (I'm not talking about cocktail arcade machines)
I've been trying to find a decent bar stool (the kind with a black seat and metal legs, just like you'd find in a real bar), but I haven't had much luck. Target had a halfway decent one but it felt kind of junky.
Anybody know where the best place to buy a bar stool is?

Look at some furniture stores, they should be able to have something in your price range.
-
I always see them on craigslist.com (http://craigslist.com).
Check under furniture or do a search for bar stool. Craigslist might only be helpful if you live near a big city.
If not check ebay they have thousands and are usually sold in pairs.

I use a drumstool ... granted i have a cocktail but the stools are height adjustable.
-
If you can't find real barstools (at a reasonable price), try Ikea. I bought these and they are just the right height for both sit-at and upright games.

I got mine at Target for like $25 each or something. Perfect height, swivel, and look nice. You can check Target as well...

One place I recommend checking would be Auto Parts store chains. I picked up a couple of metal leg, swivel top bar stools for $20-$30 each from Kragen. In today's paper, Pep Boys Auto shows a bar stool/shop seat/creeper set for $30. If you are in need of a creeper and shop seat this may be a good deal for you too.
Hope this helps,

I like the prices on both of those stools. On the lower picture, with no stretchers (the "ring" around the base of most chairs") on that, has it started to wobble? How sturdy do those feel?
Lately it seems as if TONS of stores are starting to sell the backless bar stool for ~$30 too.

I use those shop/garage stools you can get at auto parts stores. They work pretty well, but are none too comfy...
-
I have some shop stools too, but mine came from Wally-World. They're vinyl checkered swivel seats with metal legs. Not bad for $20 or so.

It feels very studry to me...no wobble.

Regarding stools at Target, they haven't stocked those in about 3-4 years. It was a great deal at the time (I bought the last one at my store). Unfortunally they haven't restocked since then. Can't find them in their online catalog either.

I gotz the real deal Holyfield stools from Happs for like $30 each or something.
To answer the other question, I play sitting down 1-player and 2 player co-op, but I gotta stand for 2 player vs....I guess it's an arcade thing 8)

Since I'm very tall and built my cab to normal specs I usually sit down to play otherwise my back starts to kill me within a few minutes. I bought a couple of cheapo barstools with padded vinyl seats at Meijers for $15 each. They've lasted over a year so far so they're pretty well put together.

I bought a pair of beautiful oak bar stools at a church auction for $2 each. They weren't beautiful when I got them ;) I had to sand them down and recover the back rest and seats. Came out beautiful though ;D
-
I bought a pair of stools for $10 at a flea market. I stand when playing for short sessions but sit when playing a long time. ARCADIAC!

Depends on what you want, hte look you are going for. If you jsut want bar stools almost any department store has them (Shopko, Target, Walmart). Local hardware departments stores might, here in the midwest I believe Menards and Fleet Farm carry bar stools.

The IKEA barstools suck. They are for kids. I have 3 in the basement... for the kids.
Wait until summer and buy some at a garage sale. You will probably be able to get them for less then 5 each. I have 4 that I aquired this way. Super cheap... does the job... cheap... I could have had 100 if I bought each one I found throughout the summer.

I like to die standing ;D

Just a little dreaming here but...
Anyone done any custom barstools? A quick google search turns up plenty of options, but success stories are always nice. :)
-
Target has some nice ones on sale for $14 a piece right now. Perfect height.
-
more expensive, but my home depot had nice tall wooden ones with backs, more furntiure like, for $50. before Christmas, $100.

Thrift stores are a good place to find funky old ones.
I like to sit when playing.
-
I used to prefer to stand, but when you get older you need to sit down more (Bloody ell, and I'm only 27). Anyroad I'm deffo gonna be getting some stool type thingies!. Gotta stand up to play track and field though ;D
-
the local "mill store" unfinished furniture store has a variety of finished, unfinished in various styles (fancy backs, simple stools, stool samples, etc) and depending on what you are looking for can be reasonable...

Do none of you people go to Walmart? The spritual and geographical center of the UNIVERSE? ???
If Walmart doesn't have it, then by god you don't need it. That's what I tell my family anyway. "Mall " is a 4 letter word in my house.
Ebay is only for selling stuff to people who have too much money.
I guess if you are upitty you go to Target, but why? Because they have that cute dog? Why?

Target = The Poor Man's Bloomingdale's
and it's pronounced Tar-sjhey
Wanna hear something SUPER hilarious? If you've ever heard of Frontgate, you know what the definition of overpriced is. The stools that Happs sells are sold by Frontgate for the princely sum of (drumroll please) $500.
That's right.
FIVE. HUNDRED DOLLARS!
