Title: PS2 not picking up steering wheels.
Post by: markb on January 02, 2005, 07:08:33 am
I've just finished a driving cab which at the moment is set up to be able to play PC and PS2 games. The problem I have is that I cannot get my PS2 to recognise a steering wheel, I've tried 3 different ones now and none of them work on my machine although they work on my friends.
All other controllers work no problem on my machine, light guns, Eye Toy etc etc except steering wheels. ???

All of the wheels I have tried are force feedback and my PS2 is about as old as you can get as I got it when they were first released in  late 2000 (?).

Has anyone heard of this problem before or know of some sort of compatibility issue with the early PS2's? I'm baffled and can't find anything on the web about it.
I'm dying to play GT3 in my cab so I'm looking at buying one of the new PS2's so as to be able to.

Thanks

Gt3 seems to be "less than compatible" with any racing wheel except the Logitech Driving Force.

I do suggest having a Driving Force or Driving Force Pro tho. They're USB, so they'll work with your PC too.

I have an old PS2 (got mine when first released in the US) and all steering wheels work fine on it.

Any wheel except the Logitech USB ones are just "wheel shaped controllers" and thusly are compatible with any PS2 console. The issue is with the software usually.

Some games are a bit easier to set up with a wheel than others.  :-\

The Logitech USB wheel compatable games have drivers for those wheels in the program, so they tend to work WAY better than a wheel shaped controller will ever work.

I'll try another game on the PS2 and see if I can get the wheel to work on that as a starting point.
After that i'll probably end up buying a Logitech.

Thanks
