It may work.. what about power supplies do they make em small???? any other sites like tht mini one?

Handheld? Well i'd be looking toward something like this then:
www.oqo.com
-
Handheld?
-
those mini itx boards.. do they use a standard power supply or do they sell mini ones that would fit into a small case.
if i wanted to run off batteries what kind would i be needing?
that OQO thing is kool but way too much money.

You can get a small one that works like a laptop power supply. They are 55 to 100-or-so watt power supplies.

If you want handheld, maybe you should be looing at a PalmPilot type of device. There are MAME builds for them, too.
-
Yea i guess but what speed of palm will run nes, genesis, mame, snes??? and have games fit on it??
-
If you need it to run 8 different emulators with complete romsets and play every game at full speed, then it's probably not going to happen on a PDA. If you want MAME to run some classic games, then it's not so tough. I don't personally have a PDA, so I can't say exactly what you need, but my buddy had MAME running on one like 5 years ago, so it can't be that hard.

Don't forget Eve!

sure, it's not as fast as that other one (that things sweet... but for 2k for gaming?)
-
Dood...save yourself the trouble and get a laptop...I mean hey, it's portable enuff, ya know? I also want a portable MAME so bad it hurts. But for now, a truly good "in-your-pocket" emu machine is not here yet (at a decent price anyway).
I wish company would just make a machine totally designed with MAME in mind but market it kind of vaguely, you know? To avoid uneccessary attention and such. They would know that as soon as we see it, we would know EXACTLY what to do with it.
-
yea I seen that one too.. it is very bad that it was nevery made and the co went down :(
-
You young wippersnappers! From the title I thought this was a thread about PDPs.

Will this do? I think I could get this to run MAME...it might take a while to re-boot... 8)
-
Interesting thought...
Buying some of those big arse cards to hold the romsets and running the emulator right off the palm's memory?
It'd be cool as heck to tear out the innards and replace the buttons with mini joysticks and stuff....
I like to dream.

well I meant Mini-itx..although that big computer would work

If you are looking for a mini itx system there are several different types. By far the majority of the mini itx systems use the VIA built in processors. For the most part these top out now at 1200Mhz and run about $250 for the mobo and PCU only. You can find some variation in the CPU as there are some mobo's that support celerons and some that support PIII's.
mini-itx systems are usually pretty expensive. I have one system that I am likely going to be putting on eBay tonight since there was no interest in it on this board.
Here's the one I am selling ----> mini itx (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,29766.0.html).
The mobo in it is a 800Mhz and new they run ya about $180.
Flex and micro ATXsystems are more cost effective when you weigh in that you can use more CPU flavors, but you wont find a flex or micro ATX board that will be 6" x 6" in size. So if size is a consideration; mini itx is for you
If you are loooking for a project such as a PVR, 800Mhz is plenty provided you have a hardware card that handles encoding like a Hauppauge 150, etc.
If it is MAME, then of course your limit is only to what games you want to play. Most NEOGEO games including MSLUG5 play well on a 800Mhz, but you'll get more playing games on a 1200Mhz or a P4 / AMD solution.
So it really depends on the project.
