Title: PS2 Racing Seat
Post by: DCZX on December 31, 2004, 02:20:04 pm
Hi,

I just bought a Logitech Force Pro and Burnout 3 with some Christmas money I got and I want to build a racing seat.

I was thinking I could build something similar to this:

out of PVC. The only thing I need is some sort of cheap seat.

Are there any plans for something like this out there already? Is PVC strong enough?

thanks

That seat appears to be nothing more than a universal-type replacement seat for a riding lawnmower.

I'm guessing since you posted an .au link that you don't have access to the same stores around me here in the States, but I am POSITIVE that I know of a place where a seat similar to, if not identical to that one can be picked up for ~$30-40.

If you do a quick search on Toro's website, (http://www.toro.com) I'm sure you'll come up with some SUPER PHAT "racing seats" that, while pricey, I can vouch for their comfort....you may just want the cheap version, but you'll see what I'm talking about - specifically, check out the Toro Z commercial series mowers - Z-560 is what I drive, give 'er a looksee.

2" PVC will prolly be strong enough, if you're wary of it, jump up to 3".  If you're REALLY wary, move on over to black pipe, I guarantee THAT will work! (the metal stuff, not black PVC pipe)

These seats do look nice, and about the right size. I'll have to make it able to "slide" and be adjustable to height so my friends can use it. I live in the U.S. and found some local stores that service and sell them... hopefully, I can find a seat from them. Thanks for the suggestion DrewKaree!

In your case, DCZX, you may wish to look at the junkyard for an actual car seat, look for an all power one that'll move up down whatever, as you'll just need to mount the seat as a regular car seat.

If you want the cheap mower seats, you could prolly get the carriage from an auto seat and bolt the mower seat to some plywood that you'd then bolt to the seat carriage to move it forward and back - up and down with that setup, I can only picture a ghetto setup at the present time.

I think I might just fix the chair and wheel and make the footpedal adjustable... this might be easier. I'm not sure of a non ghetto way to make the footpedal mount though... maybe I'll drill holls in the side and it could have pins like an excercise machine.
