Hey all...
I am building a MAME cabinet with a rotating 19" LCD.
-
Well 3darcade can rotate on the fly unless I'm mistaken. Of course it uses internal rotation, not hardware rotation, but you shouldn't notice any real difference in speed.
With that being said, none of the fe's work teh way you are wanting, that's why I started the sticky. :) What a few of them will do is allow you to map a button to "rotate" so you can rotate at will, however rotating the fe based on the orientation of the last game you played isn't possible atm.

Actually there is an option in 3darcade I put in for someone a year ago or so to rotate itself depending on the orientation of the game after you come back to the fe. if i remember correctly setting the skinsautorot property to true in the general cfg menu will enable this.

Thanks, Howard and Peter for the quick responses.

This type of functionality reduces the number of times you need to physically rotate the screen.
For instance... If I wanted to play 3 vertical games (lets say PacMan, Dig Dug, Ms Pac), I'd have to keep flipping the LCD back to horizontal in between each game so that I can pick the next game from the FE.
FE - Horizontal
Pac Man - Vertical
FE - Horizontal
Dig Dug - Vertical
Etc...
Ideally it would be more like...
FE - Horizontal
Pac Man - Vertical
FE - Vertical
Dig Dug - Vertical
Ahhhh... to dream... :)
I did dl 3darcade, but still working on configuring it.
-
Ok, I get it now.... I was just too dumb to see it before ;)
-
Peter - I just tried your 3darcade frontend and it rotates perfectly (based on the last game played)!
-
Now I searched your site for more vertical skins... Anyway you can add more vertical skins to your default skin set?

Now I searched your site for more vertical skins... Anyway you can add more vertical skins to your default skin set? The updated default skinset has so many more horizontal skins (all the consoles).
I am going to try to play with your built in skinner as well.. Chagining orientations on the sprites, etc. Fun, fun!
Thanks again. I am sure you'll hear from me again. ;-)

as howard said i only use console games on my desktop so i only bothered to update the horizontal ones... that being said the default vertical skin that is used in the console section is generic and can be used with all consoles. so you can allready use all of them with the fe. just add a dedicated background to them one by one by replacing the background image when you feel like it :)

Peter / Howard,
Thanks for all the info.

Peter / Howard,
Thanks for all the info. I will try to make up some vertical skins so you can add to your set. I will try to use the same backgrounds/images/etc so they match the horizontal ones.
I'll let you know.
Thanks!

:)
just use the generic skin used for all consoles in the vertical version of the default skin as your model:
skins\3darcade_ast_console_vert_pricewheel.cfg
