Recently my mame cabinet has stopped saving changes to the high score tables in a few games. Any ideas what may have happened.
I only noticed it because I had just set a personal best on Centipede. The next time I played it, I noticed it hadn't saved the new high score. I was not using any cheats.
Playing around with a few other games, I discovered a couple others that wouldn't save high scores. The majority of the games will still save my high scores.
Looking in the HI folder and at the problem games, the folder settings are the same as games that will save scores.
This is all on a windows 98, mame32 .78.
Thanks for any help.

Unless the game originally saved the high scores, mame will not save high scores. Each time you play, it is like you turned the game off and then back on. The scores are only saved if you leave the game on.
That being said.... if you download highscores.dat they have a fix that will save the high scores for most games. Try that and see if it works for you....

I have the highscores.dat downloaded and installed. It all worked perfectly.
It used to save my high scores, now something has changed on a select few games.

jimmyjet, centipede saves it's high scores in 2 places. The top 3 are saved in the nvram subdirectory while the others will be saved in the hi subdirectory if you have the hiscore.dat file in your Mame directory.

I was going to ask if you upgraded your Mame version, as sometimes the nvram files aren't compatible between versions. But since you're using .78 I'm betting not.
Try deleting your nvram file for these games, see if that makes any difference. You'll lose the scores that are already there, but you may be able to save new scores.
