I finished my cab back in October, but never put a site together to showcase it.
-
just because its in a book and easy to follow doesnt mean everyone can do it! ::)
nice cab though, very clean looking.
-
Very nice! How do you like the 24" TV as a display?
I have a 19" monitor, and I'm considering this. Worried I'm not going to be happy with the display.
-
The 24" TV worked out great.
-
Posting a couple of pictures would be awesome, especially if you could throw in a couple snaps of Asteroids and Tempest. I'm not addicted to vector games, but I've read they suffer on a regular TV and I'd love to see it.
I have a GeForce2 with S-Video out in my cab already, so this wouldn't be too hard of a swap for me.
-
Ok - I've updated my webpage at the bottom to include 3 pics each of Tempest, Asteroids and Star Wars (http://members.tripod.com/gameover75/). I did not use a tripod, also note my cab has 2 sheets of 1/4" tempered glass (I have 3 boys that like to throw things!), so you will see a little ghosting.
I will also mention that the VPinball games also do not look nearly as good on the TV as they do on a monitor, another consideration. They look good, just not great.
Check out the monitor section of the BYOAC forum for more TV comments! If all else fails, buy a TV, try it, then return it if you don't like it!
Good luck.
-
They look better than I expected. Thanks for the quick snaps! ;)
-
Would love to see these games on that TV:
TMNT
Popeye
Metal Slug
Beserk
Thanks!
Oh, looking great, btw
-
how does the virtual pinball look? I've read from VPinball enthusiats that anything less than 1024X768 is, well.. you pick an explitive.
thanks!
-
I've updated my web page to include
TMNT
Popeye
Beserk
VPinball
I don't have Metal Slug on my cab. The scanlines in these pics are NOT as apparent when you're actually playing the game - if they were I'd replace the TV w/a monitor! These pics don't do the VPinball justice - they look much better than the pics convey.
The TV has worked out very well. Unless you're going for absolute perfection, there's no reason not to use a television. No one else will notice, really! All the games look good, some detail is lost in the VPinball but otherwise those are good too.
Enjoy!

thanks for the added pics to your site- since the whole display debate is so controversial i'd like to see a thread or site showing pics (like you posted) of the 3 categories (pc monitor, TV, Arcade/monitor hybrid) and even different ones under those categories...
like "here's my Sharp so and so TV displaying so and so game".. etc
would be helpful to wannabe cab builders as they try to decide on a display!

Oscar Controls did this, though not with as many games as GameOver has been showing us!

I agree - that would be a good idea. Not a thread, but maybe a sticky in the monitor/video forum showing pics from different display types. The problems I think you'd have are
1) Different people taking pics with different cameras will produce different results
2) Looking at my pics as an example, say the VPinball shots, the digital picture shows mega scanlines when in fact there are virtually no scanlines. That's because of how my TV (most TV's) display the screen vs. how the digital camera works. Bottom line is what you see isn't what you get.
Really, it depends what kind of result you're looking for, what you're going to run on your cabinet, also how much $$$ you want to spend. The TV works great for me, but maybe not for you or someone else.
The pros & cons of different display types are well documented in the monitor/video section, but I still think it would be neat to have a post as you suggest to have screen shots of different types of displays!

Nice and clean! I like the bezel...how did you get that printed? Is it all one piece?
-
Thanks - I LOVE my baby! Of course, after hanging out at BYOAC forums & seeing everyone else's creations, I want to make several more. It's a sickness!
Yes - the bezel is all one piece. Scott at MameMarquees.com printed both the CPO and the bezel from a design I created in Paintshop Pro. He did a great job.
Ready to sell your racing cab yet JR? ;D
