Title: Ipac to supergun?
Post by: kraven morehead on December 28, 2004, 09:12:59 am
Hey all,
Great site I must say. I was wondering if its possible to hook up a arcade control panel i bought (this is a slikstik) to a supergun? I could build the supergun if I had the info, but I'm just not sure if this is possible coming out from the ipac. I would have to configure everything, and im not sure how I would do that.

if thats not an option, I would consider trying to hook up the  controlls to a dreamcast, but even with a usb 2 dreamcast connection, im not sure how I would configure the stik again without using the ipac software.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

What does the Supergun use as a controller input? Is it custom, PC based, or like a console (PSX, NeoGeo) port?

im not sure but i think it has a harness that just hooks up to the arcade pcb.
as for the dreamcast scenario i would just use a usb to dreamcast converter.

Since all a supergun is is a JAMMA setup sans the cabinet, you can certainly hook up a J-PAC and PC.

yeah, looks like id have to unhook all my controls from my current ipac in order to hook it up to the jpac though. I was hoping to be able to use my arcade control panel on my pc and have the option to use a supergun.  maybe i could just tap in a jpac as well? not usre if this would work.
**edit**
actually it looks like i could just use the ps2  cable coming out of my control panel and go into a jpac. im not sure if this would do the trick, but then how would i program the buttons to work on the jamma side?

I think what you mean is using your controller effectively as the "keyboard" that can be connected to a JPAC (or IPAC) - i.e. daisy chaining.

(Obviously this means having two (fairly expensive) keyboard encoders when only one is required. Personally, I would re-wire direct to a JPAC)

However, whilst I have not done this myself, I think daisychaining should work - I think the "keyboard" connection on the JPAC is a pass-through. Unless you are changing from the current setup of your controller, you won't need to "setup" anything, it should "just work".

Good luck!

most superguns use hacked console controllers, but in reality since you have to build the supergun youself, you can make it goto any controls you want. i would make the controls goto a hacked db25 cable and have the other half come from your control panel.

a super gun is just:
an arcade power supply, and a jamma harness in a box with some test switch buttons wired up to the jamma harness and some sort of controls also hooked up to the jamma harness.

so you definatly can hook your joystick up to a supergun, it should be fairly easy, and by using the db25 switching method you can use your joystick with whatever other system you want by hacking it to a db25.

if you need further explaination let me know, its very easy.
