Title: Gage Wire????

Hi I am wondering what everyone uses for a gage wire for there control panels. I have read 18 to 22? Just looking for Useful opinions.

I used 18 gage.

You should use 18 for electrical wiring in the cabinet, but 22 is fine for buttons and sticks.

some people (including myself) use cat 5 data cable. cheap as chips and good enough for the job. i must admit (having once been an auto sparky) that heavier wire would look neater, but at a dollar a metre for 25 wire data cable i didn't care

You can use any gauge wire for the buttons and sticks.  There's no power running through them, so it doesn't matter.

Use braided wire if you can.  It's stronger and much easier to work with.

I use 18  just for the fact that it fits the snuggest in the smallest crimp on connectors.
