Title: Front end question
Post by: magnus on December 25, 2004, 10:43:47 pm
Keep im mind i've never delt with front ends. Anyway, when u boot your machine do have a choice of whether to load the front end os or the regular window's os or does it just start up in the front end without a windows option....

For most frontends it's a matter of just throwing a shortcut in your startup folder so that when windows loads, you boot straight into the frontend.  Some people suggest registry hacks and whatnot, but you're saving a second or two at best for the pain.

If you're cab building you don't normally want to select games via mouse+pointer style, but rather through a nice simple list that can be scrolled around via a joystick, and games started with a button press.  Hence the frontend.  How your system starts is still up to you.

So how would u get it to load regular windows if the front end is in the start up folder?

????  Your OS is loaded first, and then it starts running what is in your startup folder....

Yes. Just like you if you booted to Windows, then ran an application then exited the application. You would be right back to the Windows desktop. The startup folder is kind of a special folder. After Windows boots it will execute anything (preferrably shortcuts) that are in the startup folder. If you want to run an application on Windows bootup place a shortcut to the programs executable file in the start up folder.

Good Luck,
John
