I remember a while back, there were a few good Arcade Font sites.. However, recently, I've been hard pressed to find any..
Does anyone know of a good site for Arcade fonts?
If not, does anyone have a collection they'd be willing to share w/ me?
I appreciate any help you guys can give.
Thanks

I was going to start a repositorary after I had trouble finding fonts... I've got some font's ... but what are you actually looking for,... the fonts on the screen? Marquee style fonts? other?
Just for the sake of conversation post exactly what you had in mind...

I can't speak for nipsmg but HOW exactly do we make any text look like the capcom logo?
I got my new art almost ready and can't figure out how to make logos...HEEEEEEELP....anybody has any clue? ???
-
I'm sure if you started a photoshop help thread it would be well received ;)
There might be a capcom-esque font out there... wait i'm pretty sure I have a capcom font on my pc at work... I'll check for it tomorrow and make it available if I find it...
but I don't think the capcom style would be too hard to emulate (ha! get it?!) in photoshop...

This guy has some really cool video/arcade style fonts: http://www.9031.com/p-font/index.html (http://www.9031.com/p-font/index.html) The one called "arcade" looks just like the screen fonts on old games like Pac-Man etc.
If you want a font based on the Pac-Man logo, do a search for a font called "CrackMan". That's the one I used on my site.
If you just do a Google search for "free fonts", you'll find lots of sites. Just browse until you find something interesting! ;)

This is a good idea, and I've been meaning to do something like this for a while. I have about a dozen of arcade/game fonts that I could readily find, and I have more on CD's somewhere, too. We should pool our resources together and get a decent selection going.
I will gladly host a repository for arcade & game fonts. I've started a quick & dirty page here where you can download what I have:
http://www.oscarcontrols.com/fonts.htm
If anyone has fonts that I don't have, please send them to me, and I'll include them in the list with a "Submitted by", or link, or whatever. I'll get the page all properly linked and such from my homepage shortly.

Great Thanks Oscar. Now I can make my own Marquee with an authentic arcade look. ;D
-
FYI Oscar I sent you a zip of some zips of misc arcade fonts to add to your repository when you get a chance...
Snaaaake I couldn't find a capcom font, I musta been mistaken, my apologies... although I think with a little bit of photoshop skill you could recreate the capcom look without too much hassle i.e. madk's marquee.

This guy has a lot of fonts, many of which are based on 80's games and television shows:
http://www.larabiefonts.com/
He made the Crackman and Joystix fonts on Oscar's repository page I believe.

Thanks OSCAR!

For most font's this is the case, but capcom's is a tad harder.....
The hardest part is finding a font that has the profile..... This a varsity font could probably get the job done.... Then in blending options you need to put a bevel on it to give it a nice 3d effect. After that comes the hard part... If you notice capcom lettering is yellow with blue outline. The normal outline feature won't work as it makes the font look too chubby. What you have to do is manually color the inside of a blue logo yellow... either that or use a two color gradient with 1 point of blend, but I doubt that would turn out well.
Have no clue what I am talking about? Then you need more experience with photoshop. ;)

I'm sure there's more than one way to skin a cat =P
Is there beveling anywhere within the capcom part of the marquee? There's the obvious beveling in red w/gradients but i'm not seeing any obvious beveling within the capcom part... (I don't say that to contest what you said, just asking for clarification in order to learn more/different approach - expand my PS horizon if you will)
I was thinking you could do the old expand selection around individual yellow letters (in order to minimize chubbyness bleeding together) and blue fill, then tweaking as necessary (like in the bottom of the M) get the letters together... make a merged layer expand some more fill white, expand some more stroke black (heh beavis, he said "stroke")
*shrug* I'm just a hack... who's always on the prowl for tips...

Thanks to those who have sent fonts to me! I have just uploaded everything I have received so far, and there are 3 pages worth now (about 75 fonts).
Special thanks to rampy, who sent in about 60 of them, 50 of which are screen fonts.
Check them out!

I still have to get the link up from the homepage, but been busy, busy, busy today... :-\

FWIW a byoac'er named Johnny sent me the arcade "screens" fonts bundle older font thread (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=2048;start=0) (just to give appropriate props to him for the initial "hook up" )
=)
Thanks again for organizing/hosting the font page, I mighta never gotten around to it =P

Well I don't know about that particular marquee but all versions of the capcom logo i've seen on their flyers has had a slightly 3d effect. I have tried stroke (hehe) but even with no feathering it looks too blurry and has that chubbiness. Yes I did the individual letters when I tried but as you know the stroke and expand functions loose sharp edges the more you do them... That is where the problem lies. Perhaps combining two letters (one blue and one yellow) at different font sizes might be the key. But even then it's very tricky.
As you said more than one way to skin a cat, but I've tried a lot of different techniques and so far I can't find one that will get the job done farily quickly. So it's doable, just very hard in this particular case. Now an arachnoid marquee would be cake to do with the fonts oscar has posted. :)
Btw I have some arcade fonts collected from my lazarus skin resources including all of the mk fonts. I will post them once I get a chance.

OK maybe I'm just a COMPLETE idiot, but wouldn't you just select a letter, and grow/shrink the selection area and fill it w/ a different color?
you can Grow/Shrink the selection by X number of Pixels.
Shouldn't be too tough.
--NipsMG ;D
-
Yes that's what we were discussing.
Long story short....
If you grow then the letters get too chubby.
If you shrink then the outline of the letters get distorted and it doesn't fill the correct places.
-
kinda off topic. Anyone know of a good resource for vector and/or bitmap fonts??
-
Howard: Your post was talking about stroke and expand functions..
If you get a selection mask with the wand tool, and grow it, it *should* hold sharp edges.
I'm not talking about growing/shrinking the actual drawing, just the selection mask, then using it to create fills.. that *should* work..
Maybe I'm wrong.. I'll look at it when I get home.

Here is the exact way to do this kind of effect...
Type the text you want but use the "Type Mask Tool" instead of the regular text tool. Now when you have the text typed up, do a fill with the desired outline color. Then go to "Select->Modify->Contract...", contract the selection 2 pixels (or other value desired). Now fill the selection again with the fill color.
This method is what I use all the time with perfect results! BTW the modify option will retain any anti-aliasing method you chose in the type tool settings and will also contract or expand selections perfectly for this kind of aplication (not like the grow option).
Enjoy...

the same math is involved in both functions, so it would have the same effect...
same with the expand/contract idea.... In most cases it woudl work great, but the unique romanesque shape makes it qite impossible to get god results without doing it by hand. I figured it was hard to just explain with words so i generated some samples. When things slow down here I will post them so you can se the effects.
-
Ok I believe ya ;)
I just wasn't sure if we were talking about the same thing..
Another Option:
Create the white letters
Copy the layer
free transform the back layer
change color of back layer
merge down ?
I really need to get out of work and get home to try it :)

Oh I didn't mean it like that... it's just i've tried to replicate it before and have had a whole lot of trouble. I can get some results that are close, but when it comes to artwork I am a prefectionist (read anal retentative) and the capcom one has been a personal peeve of mine...
anyway using the two most popular methods mentioned so far, I made some "capcomesque" lettering...
Above is the contract methoed using a very capcom like font... as you can see this is totally unacceptable. I inverted the color scheme to show better contrast as the little yellow streaks were hard to discern from some kind of highlighting effect the other way around. This is the contract issue... capcom has a very sharp font, and that sharpness is lost when you make a properly sized contraction.
Now below are much better results, but at least for me, still not perfect.....
As you can see this is very capcom like, but take a closer look. Notice how the sharp edges get rounded a bit. That really p#sses me off. :) Also take note that the font I'm using is much narrower and in the wrong aspect ratio of a proper capcom logo. Capcom's font is almost square and much thicker. This makes for an even "fatter" expansion.
Now see actually that looks decent for those that aren't at nit-picking as me. That's the only reason I wanted to post the pics, thought it might be helpful. ;)
Anyway, I've taken the thread too far off course. I'll see if I can hunt up my mk fonts and post them. They are really cool. :)

Was looking around for some Space Harrier stuff, and I found a site with some cool Sega fonts, in case anybody's still interested.
