OK, I am getting my cab going the best I can by first auditing my favorite games and tweaking settings.
However, Galaga is ticking me off. When I start it, I get a message that says video emulation is not 100% accurate! Is that normal for Galaga?
It still plays...and while I am no master, it seems to look normal. What's the deal?
The ROM I have is "galaga.zip" and it is 22.3k
Oh, and I am using the newest MAME (0.89)
Thanks!

Yes, it's normal for Galaga in MAME. It's nothing you're doing wrong or anything. It's just one of the MAME built in warning screens.
-
yeah, it's correct, and normal... If i remember right, the starfield background was undumpable from galaga, so it's using the starfield from galaxian.
-
oh ok...so I guess that means that Galaga is 99.9999% acurate? lol
Oh well.
Is there anyway I can skip that screen? When my friends play my cab, I don't want to have to explain those warning screens and MAME in general. Not that I wouldn't try, it's just amazing how clueless some people get when you talk about emulation....lol

I have downloaded the source and removed all the nag screens and compiled it. Many others have also done this.
But NoName MAME has flags you can trip in the MAME.ini file to accomplish this as well, if you don't want to compile your own version.

Yup, it's imperfect. It's not your ROM, it's the status of the emulation. It actually uses the starfield from Galaxian, not the native one from Galaga because they haven't figured it out yet.
Only recently did they figure out the Namco 54xx CPU set, and now Galaga doesn't require samples anymore! But you have to be using .89u6 to get that to work. But it's sweeeeeeeeet.
About the message, the only way to get that out would be to either compile out the messages for *all* games, or change the code for Galaga so it reads as perfect. Your call.
Edit: wouldn't you know it...start typing, walk away for 15 minutes, and there's already a ton of replies.

I think I will play with re-compiling to remove all nag screens...I am a programmer so I should be able to figure it out. :-D
Oh, and Peale...your avatar makes me want to spend more "quality" time with my wife!!
lol

Or use an older version of mame, older versions didn't have a Galaga nag screen.

Yeah, but now the latest version has accurate sound. No samples needed! ;)
