Has anyone ever really figured out how to build a hybrid cab that does Mame and then can just be reconfigured to Jamma?
I am talking about just taking your run of the mill Jamma cab, 2 joys, 3 buttons, etc and then install a PC and hookup to it?
The PC would have like an IPAC with the leads soldered to a Jamma blade that plugs into the Jamma cable and off she goes?
I know the PC would have to have the ArcadeVGA card and then the IPac. Has anyone here ever done this?

I'm sure a lot of us have. I've got two currently.
The biggest problem is the arcade power supply. Without a load on it, it'll quickly burn up.
So I disconnect it from mains power. If I *really* wanted it switchable I'd do a solution which switched power from the arcade PS to the computer PS, but I don't play the JAMMA boards enough to warrant it.

If you've got the room I would highly recommend having one MAME cab and one Jamma/NeoGeo cab. That is how I am set up at the moment and it's working out great.

JPAC + AVGA = up and running MAME cab w/ arcade monitor in 10 minutes - the software config of your emulators and front end of course. It doesn't get any more simple than this and the JPAC has additional connectors for the additional buttons beyond the 3 button JAMMA std.

Okay, stupid question. I know that the Arcade VGA card is cool and all, but is it possible to buy or build a component that would just take the output from a standard PC card at 31khz and convert it to 15Khz ?
I'm thinking of alike a black box deal. One side has the jamma edge connector, and the other side has an input for the speaker, the monitor, and the keyboard.
Is that possible?

Randy Fromm says to even test a switching power supply it has to have a load. You can put a 5watt resistor (like the little square white ones on monitors) on the +5 watt and it will be okay.
But I like the idea of having a double pole single throw switch to activate the power supply. That would be a good idea if you wanted to go back.

There are a lot of video cards that output @ 15KHz. Most ATI cards do this.
I'm blessed to have two motherboards that have ATI Rage and built-in sound. Makes a great Mame board. Only problem is I can't get it over 450MHz, so it's classics only.
